Vacation Reply - Who gets the reply?

Vacation Reply - Who gets the reply?

I have a question about Mail Vacation Replies. When we set and activate a vacation reply, is the reply sent ONLY to the sender, or is the vacation reply sent to everyone in the original email? I am a member of several mail groups, and I am trying not to spam everyone.
