WANTED workflow RULES to trigger EVENTS

This has been requested several times in the forums but I figure I will give it one more shot.

We constantly setup appointments for leads and have created a field "Appointment Date and Time". Once we fill this field, the system should be able (on value not emtpy) trigger an event for the record's owner with the appropriate date and time.

This way the calendar could be filled automatically and replicated to Google. Yes, we know we can save the record and create a new event activity, but why have to go through all these extra steps when you can have the system enable the event on your behalf?

Can this be enabled please?
