Welcome to Zoho POS’s monthly update, where we bring you the latest feature releases, enhancements, events, and more. Let’s take a quick look at the new item price override option for embedded barcodes and how it can help streamline your billing process.

Automate item price calculation using embedded barcodes

Embedded barcodes are generated by weighing machines and contain information such as the item's price, quantity, and a unique identifier that helps barcode scanners read the barcode.

In Zoho POS web application you can configure these barcodes to be captured by scanners and automatically add the corresponding items to the cart. Now, we've introduced an additional option that allows you to override the default item price stored in the item details and automatically calculate the price based on the information embedded in the barcode.

For example, Zylker Groceries purchases fresh vegetables and fruits daily and sells them in bulk using embedded barcodes. The prices of these items frequently fluctuate, and sometimes, multiple batches of the same item with different prices are available for sale simultaneously.

In such scenarios, updating the item's master data isn't practical, as the same item may have multiple selling prices at the same time. Manually editing the price during billing can also be time-consuming. To address this, Zoho POS lets you override the item's default price and automatically calculate the selling price using the information available in the embedded barcode.

With this configuration, you only need to set the applicable price while generating the embedded barcode using the weighing machine. Zoho POS will read the barcode, calculate the item price based on the embedded amount and quantity, and automatically apply the correct price to the invoice.

You can enable this option while adding or editing an embedded barcode configuration.

This option is available only when the amount field is included in the embedded barcode configuration
Currently this option is only applicable to the Zoho POS Windows application
