Work-around for lack of ability to add a new item to a picklist field while in the form

I've read a many threads and sent a help request to zoho support about the ability to add a new entry within a Creator form for a picklist field. The only response I've got or seen is that it is not an available feature.

It seems that there could be a way to at least add a field under the picklist that allows the user to enter an "other" or "new" entry. If upon update, that field could write the new data to both the picklist look-up table (so it would be available next time) and the data field it was supposed to go into originally.

Does anyone have any ideas of how the above could be done?

As an example my problem is I have a Creator app to track progress for an ngo in a child well-being program in several African countries. Because of constant expansion of the programs, several places in the forms there are fields that would need a new entry not already in the picklist. For instance, a new region, new club name, new tribe name etc.

Most of the workers submitting statistics are volunteers and have low computer skills, so expecting them to proactively add new data to a look-up table prior to starting a report form is not going to happen. Also, if the discover in the process of the report that they need to enter new picklist/look-up entries and go out to the look-up table to enter it, it will clear all their work up to that point (not good).
