Workflow Alert help Needed

I have been asked to create an e-mail alert to notify individuals when the value of a specific field has been originated or changed.

The problem is that I need to notify a specific individual based on the value of another field in the record.

Specifically, I want Zoho to send a salesperson an e-mail alert when the estimating department changes the completion date for a requested quote. We have 6 salespeople. Their info is contained in the Potential record that is being modified to adjust the completion date. We have set it up so that the salesperson is listed as the Record Owner. This should (in theory) make it easy to notify them using an alert in conjunction with a workflow rule and an e-mail template.

I can establish a rule to notify a group or a specific user, but I don't see how I can make the alert "Smart" enough to notify the record owner only. Right now I have dummy group set up that is blank. Should I simply notify that gorup and then select the check box to notify the record owner as well?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
