Workflow Conversion from Deals to Custom Module not Working

I have a workflow rule so that when a Deal gets to a certain Stage, it creates a job in the Custom Module. The issues I am having is if I have the workflow linking the portal user lookup to the Deals, it works and the portal user can see the new job. However, they cannot edit the job. The portals settings are set to allow editing. 

If the portal user creates a new job in the custom module with the button, everything works and is editable.

Can you tell me why a new job in the custom module is not editable? Attached is a screenshot of my Workflow rule. 

Edit: it looks like the Owner of the module is set as the User Owner. So portal users can't edit it. I can't see a way to automatically change the User Owner in portals. Is there a way to do this?
