Zoho CMR Android App Silliness

Zoho CMR Android App Silliness

I recently adopted the Android app and was not surprised that once again, Zoho have relied upon software engineers to define a product rather than users and usability experts. I say this with some authority because I run a software development business, and I recognise the problem.

For example, as a user of Zoho CRM, I want to see my leads presented in reverse order that I entered them - this way, the ones that need attention are at the top. So what do Zoho do? Default to showing ALL leads in alphabetic order. What choices do I have? Filter to my leads and nothing more - no options to sort.

OK, so eventually I find the lead I want to interact with. I want to send an email to the lead. So, you would think I would click on the email address? No, I have to press a very small email symbol at the bottom of the screen with a tiny active area (i.e. hard to press). What would you think should happen? That I can then send an email? No, what actually happens is that the email address is opened in a popup box. Why?

What happens next? Well, you press the email address, and the app pops up a choice of email clients to complete the action EXCEPT on my phone, my choices are Gmail (a legitimate email client but one unfortunately I do not use), Google Docs (not an email client) and Skype (not an email client).

The choice I want is the android email client. But it's not offered, and I cannot find out how to alter this.

Anybody with more than two brain cells should know this is rubbish. And what's more, as a long time user of Zoho, this is how your development goes. Daft, illogical user interface design which VERY slowly gets corrected as people complain.

This MUST be hurting your business - when people evaluate your product, and they come across this illogical, inconsistent daft kind of thing, they'll figure it's worth spending the extra money on Salesforce.

Now, Zoho, you can choose to ignore me. You can choose to placate me with promises of "we'll fix real soon" when we both know that actually, it will be a minimum of a year. Or, you could listen, fix these next week (I know it won't take long - I write software for a living) and HIRE A USABILITY EXPERT to stop you making these schoolboy blunders constantly.
