I understand that this is not currently a feature, but I'd like to post a request that the feature be added so you know there's demand for it:
If possible, please add the ability to convert accounts back to leads. We operate in an industry where clients can be won and lost from year to year and we would not like to lose all the historical information associated with the accounts if they are lost, should we decide to pursue them in the future.
