Zoho VO in vserver

I am using zoho V.O. for a while in a vmware virtual machine. In order to reduce hardware resources needed I am trying to move it to vserver. I have setup a minimal debian install and I am able to run VO in the host environment, but when I try to run it inside a virtual machine (guest) I got the following message:

"Trying to start MySQL server failed"

The thing is that myqsld appears to be running! Even the log messages from vmware and vserver systems are the same. It seems the loader can't find the sql server...

I am aware this product is discontinued, but it is still VERY useful to me....Any tips on how to deal with this?
