Hello
I think Zoho Creator is a great enterprise application generator (EAG).
I think it could also be the basis of a great web application framework (WAF).
As an EAG, I think it pretty much hits the mark; I don't think it needs much more.
As a WAF, I think: its pricing is inappropriate, it needs some payment processing features, and it would be a good idea to better leverage Google's App Engine.
I suggest Zoho introduce a new product, perhaps called Zoho Web Developer.
This should have all the features of Zoho Creator.
And it should include the ability to process payments (for e-commerce applications).
It should also leverage more fully App Engine, perhaps by having Python as the scripting language (instead of Deluge), thus enabling all parts of the applications developed to run on GAE (as well as on Zoho).
And I think the revenue model would have to be something more appropriate; I doubt charging for each member would work in this setting.
Perhaps Zoho could have a free version, a low priced version and a higher priced version.
The free version could have the company's logo (as at present), with the low priced version removing it and the higher priced version having facilities for managing sites with large numbers of visitors (by the time a site is in this position, the owners will probably be happy to pay for such facilities).
One additional potentially useful feature would be a ReSTful design.
This is an increasingly popular component of modern WAFs and would ease sharing data between applications.
I would be interested to know what you all think of these ideas.
And I would be happy to do some of the beta testing (and thus gain early access to the software), if Zoho ever decides to pursue this.
Regards
Clive
