Passkey sign-in failed on Mac | Troubleshooting - Zoho Accounts

Passkey sign-in failed on Mac

What happened

You may have encountered this error when you were trying to sign in using your passphrase on your Mac device. This issue could have occurred due to one of the following reasons:

Unsupported browser:
Your current version of Safari doesn't support passkeys. Passkeys are only supported in versions 16 and above.

Apple ID mismatch:
The Apple ID signed-in on your Mac device is not the same account where the passkey is synced with. Let's say, you have generated passkey from your iPhone that is signed-in with the Apple ID johndoe@zylker.com. The generated passkey will be synced with this Apple ID's iCloud. Now, you are trying to sign in from your Mac that is signed-in with the Apple ID  johnblow@zylker.com. Since your Zoho account's passkey is not synced with this Apple ID's iCloud, this error will be shown.

Keychain disabled:
The passkey will be stored in your iCloud Keychain. If the Keychain is disabled on your Mac, this error will be shown.

How to resolve

To resolve the error:
  1. Make sure your Safari browser is updated to the latest version.
  1. Sign in to Mac using the same Apple ID where the passkey is synced with.
  1. Enable iCloud Keychain on your Mac. To do this:
    1. On macOS Monterey or lower:
      1. Open System Preferences.
      2. Click Apple ID, then click iCloud in the left menu.
      3. Select Keychain.
    2. On macOS Ventura:
      1. Open System Settings.
      2. Click your account name in the left menu.
      3. Click iCloud, then enable Password & Keychain.
If you do not want to do the above, you can still sign in to your account using your other sign-in modes.
