An account already exists with this email address in a different data center

What happened?

In Zoho, we store the data associated with a Zoho account and a Zoho organization in one of the data centers (DC) mentioned below and only in a single data center. 

  • United States (US)
  • India (IN)
  • Europe (EU)
  • Australia (AU)
  • Japan (JP)
  • China (CN)

If your account is present in the United States (US) DC, but the organization you want to join is present in the European (EU) DC, you will not be able to join that organization and this error will be thrown.

When a user joins an organization, the user's data will be associated with the organization, leading to the data being stored in the organization's DC. However, due to privacy reasons, Zoho will store a user account's data only in the DC where the user is present. So, when the user and organization's DC are different, the user cannot join the organization.

How to resolve this

To join the organization, you can do one of the following:

  • If you don't need the already existing account, close that account and sign up for a new account in the required DC. (You can select the DC on the sign-up page.)
  • If you don't want to close the existing account, use a different email address or mobile number to create a new account in the required DC, and join the organization.
  • If you need to join the organization only with the existing account, migrate your account from the current data center to the required DC. To do this, you will need to send a migration request to our Migration support team. After analyzing the feasibility for migration, we will get back to you. Learn more about data center migration
