Branding your event app goes a long way in building awareness and recognition about your organization. The app will be a representation of your organization's aesthetics and tone, and will help your attendees define who you are as a company.
Note: To generate a rebranded attendee app, an Apple developer account and a Google Play developer account is needed to develop your apps and publish them in the App Store and Play Store respectively.
App Generation
Request an app
Get customized iOS and Android apps to give your attendees a fully branded event experience.
- Go to Portal Settings > Branding > Custom Apps tab, from the Portal page.
- Click the Rebrand Your App button in the iOS section or Android section, respectively. The App Generation panel will appear.
Customize the app
You can customize many aspects of the attendee app, such as the name, logo, and splash screen, to give it a whole new look and feel that matches your company's theme.
- Go to Portal Settings > Branding > Custom Apps tab, from the Portal page.
- Click the Rebrand Your App button in the iOS section or Android section, respectively. The App Generation panel will appear.
- Enter a name for your rebranded app in the App Name textbox of the App Generation panel.
Note: This should be a maximum of 50 characters for Android, and 30 characters for iOS.
- Add the link to your terms of service in the In-App Terms and Service textbox.
- Add the link to your privacy policy in the In-App Privacy Policy textbox.
- Enter a version for your app in the App Version textbox.
Note: This will be the Version code textbox in the Android app generation panel.
- Click the Choose button in the App Icon section to add an icon for your app.
Note: Only PNG images with a resolution of 1024x1024 are supported.
- Select an icon for the splash screen.
- Select the Use app icon in splash screen checkbox in the Splash Screen section to use the app icon in the splash screen.
- Alternatively, click the Choose button in the Splash Screen section to add a different icon.
- Click the Pick Background Color link to choose a background color for your splash screen.
- Click the Save Details button to save your information and exit the panel. Alternatively, click the Next button to provide the advanced information for your custom app.
Provide certificates for digital verification
Digital certificates from the Apple Enterprise Developer program and Google Play Developer program are mandatory to develop the apps. These certificates play a major part in keeping your app secure.
For Android:

- Click the Edit Form button in the Custom Apps tab. Ignore this step if you are already in the App Generation panel.
- Click the Next button. The Advanced Information panel will appear.
- Click the Browse button to the left of the Keystore File textbox in the Digital Verification section to upload the Keystore file.
- Add a password for your Keystore file in the Keystore Password textbox.
- Add a key password in the Key Password textbox to access the private entities in the keystore file.
- Enter the name given for your certificate in the SAP Mobile Platform keystore in the Alias Name textbox.
- Enter your package name in the Package Name textbox.
- Select the Enable Push Notifications toggle to activate push notifications for your custom app.
- Enter the FCM Server key for your push notifications.
- Click the Browse button in the Enable Push Notifications section to upload the Firebase Configuration file.
- Click the Submit button to request for your custom app. Your app details will be verified, and you will be notified by email when the app development process begins.
For iOS:
- Click the Edit Form button in the Custom Apps tab. Ignore this step if you are already in the App Generation panel.
- Click the Next button. The Advanced Information panel will appear.
- Click the Browse button to the left of the Upload P12 file textbox in the Digital Verification section to upload the P12 file.
- Add a password for your P12 file in the P12 Password textbox.
- Enter your bundle identifier name in the Package Name textbox.
- Click the Browse button to the left of the Provisioning Profile textbox in the Digital Verification section to upload the provisioning profile file.
- Select the Enable Push Notifications toggle to activate push notifications for your custom app.
- Click the Browse button to the left of the Upload APNS P12 file textbox to upload the APNS P12 file.
- Enter the APNS P12 password for your push notifications in the APNS P12 Password textbox.
- Click the Submit button to request for your custom app. Your app details will be verified and you will be notified by email when the app development process begins.
App Handover
Your rebranded app will be available for download in seven-to-ten business days. You'll get an email when the app development commences, and another email when the app is developed. You can download the new app from the Backstage web app and use it to increase your brand's awareness and increase trust and credibility with your audience.
- Go to Portal Settings > Branding > Custom Apps tab, from the Portal page.
- Go to App Handover tab of the respective OS, then click the Download button to download the app file.
Note: The iOS app will have the file extension .ipa and the Android app will have the file extension .apk.
Recall the app submission
Revoke the app submission and make edits to the details. Submit a new request when you have all the details in place.
- Go to Portal Settings > Branding > Custom Apps tab, from the Portal page.
- Click the Recall Submission button. You will then be able to edit the app details.
App Live
Make your customized apps easily accessible for your attendees and give them a fully branded experience. Publish your rebranded iOS and Android apps on the AppStore and PlayStore respectively and update the links here so that your attendees can download the app. This link will be updated in the footer of your event's microsite instead of the default Backstage attendee app.
- Go to Portal Settings > Branding > Custom Apps tab, from the Portal page.
- Click Next. The Complete the app publishing dialog box will appear.
- Enter your app's App Store or Play Store link to update it in the event website.
- Click Go Live, once done.
