Generating M-PESA credentials from Safaricom

1. Log in to the Safaricom Developer Portal (Daraja 2.0). If you do not already have an account, sign up first.
2. Navigate to the My Apps page. 
   
   
   
   
3. Click Create New App. The Creating a Sandbox App dialog box will appear. 
4. Enter the Application Name. 
5. Under product selection, enable Lipa Na M-PESA Sandbox. This option allows participants to make secure online payments using M-PESA.
   
   
   
   
6. Click Create App.
7. Once the app is created, it will appear on the My Apps page. Copy and save the following details securely:
   
1. Consumer Key 
2. Consumer Secret 
   
   
   
   
8. From the left panel, click Go Live. 
9. Enter the required organizational details and complete the verification process. 
   
   
   
   
10.  Once the setup is approved: 
    
1.  A Business Short Code will be assigned.
2.  A Pass Key will be generated and sent to your registered email.

Configuring Safaricom M-PESA in Zoho Backstage 

1. Navigate to Portal Settings > Payments and Tax. 
2. Click Add Payment Gateway. The Add Payment Gateway side panel will appear. 
   
   
   
   
3. Set Organization Location as Kenya. Safaricom M-PESA will appear as an available payment gateway only when the organization location is set to Kenya.
4. Click Safaricom M-PESA under Supported Payment Gateways. 
5. Click Done. 
6. Enter the required payment details: 
   
   
   
   
1. Transaction Type: Choose one of the following based on your M-PESA account configuration. 
   
1. Paybill 
2. Buy Goods 
2. Business Short Code: Enter the unique identification number provided by Safaricom after completing the Go Live process. 
3. Receiving Party: Enter the receiving party value configured for your M-PESA account. 
4. Consumer Key: Copy this from the app created in Daraja 2.0. 
5. Consumer Secret: Copy this from the app created in Daraja 2.0. 
6. Pass Key: Enter the pass key sent to your registered email after completing the Go Live process.  
   
7. Click Done. 
   

Safaricom M-PESA will now appear under Configured Payment Gateways.

Enabling M-PESA for Your Event

1.  Navigate to Registrations > Setup > Payments from the Dock. 
2. Enable the Online Payment toggle. 
   
   
   
   
3. Safaricom M-PESA will be listed along with other payment gateways configured at portal level. 
   

1. Click Payment Gateway Setup to edit or remove the payment gateway from your event. 
   
2. Once enabled, attendees can use M-PESA to complete ticket purchases for paid registrations.

How attendees pay using M-PESA

1. During registration, attendees proceed to the Complete Registration step.
2. Under Payment Information, the attendee selects Safaricom M-PESA.
3. The attendee enters the mobile number linked to their M-PESA account.
4. After clicking Checkout with Safaricom M-PESA, a payment request is sent to the M-PESA app on their mobile device.
5. The attendee opens the prompt, enters their M-PESA PIN, and confirms the payment.
6. Once the payment is successful, the ticket order will be placed automatically.
7. If the payment fails, attendees can click Try Again to initiate the payment again.
   

1. Transaction charges are applied based on Safaricom M-PESA pricing.
   
2. Zoho Backstage does not charge any additional fee for M-PESA transactions.
