Function Logs let you view the execution history of the custom functions that power the toppings installed in your Bigin account. When something goes wrong with a topping, you can see which function failed, when it failed, and why, instead of troubleshooting without any visibility.
For example, if your QuickBooks topping stops syncing and records from QuickBooks no longer appear in Bigin, you can open Function Logs, find the QuickBooks topping, and check its functions for failed executions. If you need help, you can share these details with the support team so they can find the cause of the issue quickly.
How toppings use custom functions
Toppings in Bigin are installable extensions, such as Zoho Calendar or QuickBooks. When you install a topping, a set of custom functions is installed along with it. These functions run in the background to carry out the topping's work, like syncing records or events between Bigin and the connected app.
Because these functions run behind the scenes, a failure isn't always obvious. A sync may simply stop, with no error shown in Bigin. Function Logs record each time a topping's functions run, so you can trace exactly where things went wrong.
Viewing Function Logs
Go to Settings > Toppings.
Click Function Logs in the top-right corner.
Search for the topping you want to check.
Click a Function Name to view its execution history.
Click a failed entry to view its details, including when the function failed and the reason for the failure.
Continuing from the example above, you would search for the QuickBooks topping and open the function that handles the sync. If the sync stopped a few days ago, a failed entry from around that time will show when the function failed and why, so you know exactly what to fix.
Troubleshooting a topping with support
If a topping isn't working as expected and you contact Bigin support, the support team can review Function Logs with you during a screen-sharing session. Together, you can search for the affected topping and look at its failed executions.
The failure details help the support and development teams pinpoint the cause. Any fix or workaround is then made in the Bigin Developer Center, where toppings are hosted.
