Steps to add a sender address to address book

In short: adding a sender to your contacts or safe-senders list tells your mailbox provider the sender is trusted, which helps their mail reach your inbox. Steps for each major provider and anti-spam service are below. Note that this is a recipient-side action—it helps your own inbox but doesn’t replace sender-side authentication.
Adding a sender address to your address book or safe-senders list helps mailbox providers (Gmail, Outlook, and others) understand that the sender can be trusted, which has a positive impact on inbox delivery. Below are the steps for major mailbox providers and anti-spam services.
ⓘ A note for senders: asking recipients to whitelist you is a useful backup, but it only affects each recipient’s own inbox. The durable fix for deliverability is on your side—authenticate with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, keep complaint rates low, and maintain good list hygiene.

Mailbox providers

The easiest process, followed by most mailbox providers, is:
  • Open an email from the sender you want to whitelist.
  • Click the from/sender address at the top of the email.
  • Click Add to contacts or Add to safe senders’ list.
This varies slightly by provider. The current steps for major providers are below.

Gmail

Adding the sender to Contacts helps, but the most reliable whitelist in Gmail is a filter that never sends the mail to spam:
  1. Open the email, hover over the sender’s name, and click Add to Contacts. (Or open the More ⋮ menu on the message and choose the add-to-contacts option.)
  2. For a stronger rule, click the search box at the top, then the filter icon, and enter the sender’s address in From.
  3. Click Create filter, tick Never send it to Spam, and click Create filter again.

Yahoo Mail (also AOL Mail and AT&T Mail)

AOL Mail and AT&T Mail run on Yahoo Mail and share its interface, so these steps cover all three.
  1. Open the email, then click the sender’s name or avatar at the top.
  2. Click Add to contacts and save.
Or create a filter: Settings (gear) → More Settings → Filters → Add new filters → set From contains the sender address, choose Inbox as the delivery folder → Save.

iCloud Mail

  1. Open the email and click the sender’s name, then choose Add to Contacts (adding a sender to Contacts or marking them VIP helps their mail reach your inbox).
  2. For a rule, on iCloud.com Mail click Settings (gear) → Rules → Add a Rule. (In the Mail app on Mac: Mail → Settings → Rules.)
  3. Set the condition to the sender’s address and the action to move the message to Inbox, then save.

Comcast.net (Xfinity)

Alert⚠ Migration in progress: Comcast.net email accounts are moving to Yahoo Mail in phases through 2026. If your account has already moved, follow the Yahoo Mail steps above. If it hasn’t (you still sign in at connect.xfinity.com), use the steps below.
  1. Sign in at connect.xfinity.com and open an email from the sender.
  2. Click the sender’s email address in the message.
  3. Click Add to address book and save. (Or open Address Book → Create contact.)

Outlook (Outlook.com, new Outlook, Microsoft 365 on the web)

  1. Click Settings (gear) at the top, then Mail → Junk email.
  2. Under Safe senders and domains, click Add safe sender and enter the sender’s address or domain.
  3. Click OK, then Save. (The old per-message “Add to safe senders” option has been replaced by this Settings path.)

Zoho Mail

  1. Log in to Zoho Mail and open the email from the sender.
  2. Click the sender name in the email.
  3. Click Add to contacts when it appears.

  2. Click Settings (Einstellungen) in the bottom-left, then Desired list (Erwünscht-Liste) under Security.
  3. Enter the desired email address or domain and click Save.

BellSouth / AT&T Webmail

BellSouth and AT&T webmail now run on Yahoo Mail (AT&T “Currently”). Follow the Yahoo Mail steps above—open the email, click the sender’s name, and choose Add to contacts.
