Segment Criteria

You're likely aware that you can create segments based on different criteria in Zoho Campaigns. You can categorize contacts using contact field details like first name, last name, company name, and so on, and based on the lists and topics.

You can also segregate contacts:
  • Using custom field data to have a segment based on a specific custom field.
  • Using campaign-related activities, such as opens and clicks.
  • Using integration-related fields which will appear when you integrate apps like Zoho CRM, and many other fields.
In this document, we'll walk through the different types of segmentation criteria available in Zoho Campaigns.
Note: You can set a maximum of 10 segment criteria while creating a segment.

Types of criteria 

In this section we can explore in detail about the different segment criteria and modifier options available in Zoho Campaigns. The general format to set a criteria is: Field > Modifier > Value. First, you'll choose the field or criteria, then the modifier and finally the value. In some cases you can choose a value and in other cases you need to type the value. This depends on the field or criteria you're choosing. The screenshot below shows a simple criteria you can set up for a segment.


As shown above, Contact Email is the Field, 'contains' is the Modifier, and '@gmail.com' is the Value. This segment will have contacts whose Contact Email contains the value @gmail.com.

Depending on the criteria you choose, the segment can either be categorized as Basic segmentation (available in Standard plan) or Advanced segmentation (available in Professional plan).

Please check here to understand the difference between the two, as depending on your current plan and the criteria with which you need to create a segment, you would've to upgrade to the Professional plan.

List and Topic based criteria 

You can filter contacts based on lists. You can filter out all the contacts that were added to a list and also filter out contacts that were not added to the list. Similarly, you can filter contacts subscribed to a selected topic or contacts who have not subscribed to the selected topic.

 For some modifiers like is, isn't, you'd be choosing a date. 


 For some like 'Tomorrow  Onwards' you needn't choose anything. 

 For modifiers like 'Due in Days' you need to choose a comparator like < or > and specify the number of days.
