Email response action to identify contacts who've opened and not opened emails - Online Help | Zoho Campaigns

How to use email response to identify contacts who've opened or not opened their email

With email response, you can enable actions for contacts to perform based on how they respond to emails sent to them. In this guide, we'll help you configure the email response process to assemble a list of contacts who've opened their email and a list of contacts who've not opened their emails.
Follow the method below to configure the email response process for such contacts:
  1. From the Navigation toolbar, select Automation and click Workflows.

  2. Click Create Workflow from the top-right and select a workflow template.
  3. From the left panel, drag and drop a trigger onto the canvas, in this case, let's choose the list entry trigger.

  4. Drag and drop the 'Send Email' action from the left panel under the trigger.
  5. Click Create Message, create the email content and get it reviewed, in this case, create a message "Zylker Sale."

  6. Enable the 'response' button.

  7. Configure the 'delivered' and 'opened' response actions for your email message.

  8. All contacts who've opened the email will immediately move to the "Opened" path as they open the email.
  9. Then add a 'Wait Time' component under the delivered response path and set a delay—say, 1 hour. This is to get the list of contacts who've not opened the email in the given period.

  10. Now add the 'Email Activity' component under the wait time component for the same email message, "Zylker Sale," and configure the "Not opened" action.

  11. After the delay of 1 hour, all contacts that have not opened the email will move into the "Not Opened" path.
  12. Next, add further actions for the contacts in the two paths of the workflow. For example, you can add the contacts who've not opened their email to a new list and add a score for the contacts who've opened the email.

Why do we configure both the 'delivered' and 'opened' responses in this method?
  1. Using the delivered response lets you know to which contacts the email was sent so you can generate the list of contacts who've not opened the email.
  2. Using the opened response lets you get a list of contacts who've opened the email immediately without any delay.
