What is task dependency? 

Task dependency is a relationship in which a task relies on other tasks, determining the order in which the tasks should be performed. This helps to establish a relationship between tasks and streamline your work, particularly when a task depends on the result of another one.
 
Zoho Connect has two types of dependent tasks:
  1. Predecessor: Tasks that need to be completed before a given task.
  2. Successor: Tasks that need to be completed after a given task.

How does task dependency work in Zoho Connect?  

Zoho Connect supports multiple dependencies. A single task can have one or more predecessor tasks and successor tasks dependent on it. The dependency type is finish to finish in which you should complete all of the predecessor tasks to complete the final or successor task. 
You can only add dependencies to the tasks that are created within a Board. Task dependency is not available for tasks that are created or assigned privately. 

Who can add task dependency?

If the Board admin has allowed, all members in the Board can add dependencies to the tasks in it. 

How do I add task dependency?

  1. Click Tasks in the main menu on the left.
  2. Navigate to the required Board and task.
  3. Or, to create a new task, click + icon [] in the top-right corner of the page.
  4. Click the ellipsis (...) in the top-right corner of the task details pop-up.
  5. Select Add Dependency in the dropdown menu.

  6. Click +Add Tasks below the predecessor or successor, as per your needs.

  7. Type in the task title in the search box and click on the required task to add it.
Once you've added dependency, an additional column will be included in the task details pop-up, displaying the number of tasks depending on it. Click 🔽 found next to the predecessor/successor to view the tasks in it. 
 
Notifications: 
  1. The task assignees will be notified whenever a dependency is added to their task.
  2. The task assignees will be notified whenever a predecessor task has been marked as 'Completed'.

How do I remove a task dependency?

  1. Click Tasks in the main menu on the left.
  2. Navigate to the required Board and task.
  3. Click 🔼 next to the predecessor/successor to view the list of linked tasks in it.

  4. Click the delete icon [] in the right-end of the task title to the remove dependency.
