How to create a segment

A user can create a segment to filter out accounts which have similar traits. Creating a segment is establishing a criteria using different segmentation techniques. Follow the steps below to create a segment:
  1. On the Segments page, click New Segment and enter a name for the segment.
  2. Choose the module where you want to create the segment. It can either be Accounts, Contacts, or Deals. 
  3. Choose the nature (Static/Dynamic (mention the time frame for refreshing the segment))
  4. Choose the type (Individual/child (choose the parent))
  5. Fix the segmentation criteria (RMF, Firmographic, Engagement, VoC, Recommendation, and other Account Fields)
  6. In other CRM fields, the user can pick any field (even custom field) from the accounts (similar modules) in CRM.
  7. The user can use multiple techniques and establish a pattern among the criteria using AND operators.
  8. In RFM segmentation techniques, the user can choose two segment accounts based on either a configured label or the independent values of R, F, M values.
  9. In Firmographic segmentation technique, the user can choose two segment accounts based on configured labels.

The user will also have an option to establish a newly created segment as a filtering option in the Smart Filter in Zoho CRM.  They can choose either whether or not to establish a segment in Smart Filter. This can be reversed at any time by editing the segment.

Zylker has already configured ABM and now is ready to segment the accounts in CRM so that it can narrow down on its target audience. The next time would be to segment its customers.

Before you begin:
Zylker has mapped the modules, set the global criteria, and has chosen the segmentation technique. Essentially, it has configured ABM.

What next?
Zylker will now create a segment for it customers who are up for renewal in the next one month. 

To configure segmentation:
  1. Click Segments on the left bar.
  2. Click New Segment in the right-upper corner.
  3. In the New Segment pane that appears, enter the following segmentation details.
    1. Title: Enter a segment name, which is "Up for Renewal"
    2. Create as: Choose to create a segment as a parent or child segment. If it is a child segment, then you must choose the parent for the child from the drop-down list.
    3. Type: Choose the segment as dynamic or static segment.
    4. Click Next.
  4. Click Add Criteria in the next page that appears.
  5. Select one of the segmentation techniques that you would like to apply for this new segment.
    1. Upon choosing RFM, you can segment based on Pick labels or Pick values.
      1. Pick labels - Select the labels that you would like to add to the segmentation criteria.
      2. Pick Values - Set the RFM values for R, F and M.
      3. Click Done.
    2. Upon choosing Firmographics, select the labels that you would like to include for this segment, then click Done.
    3. Upon choosing Other CRM fields, select a field in CRM and set its criteria
  6. Click Create Segment.
    It takes a few minutes to get the segment ready.
    Your segment is ready. Once you click Refresh, you will be able to see the segment that you just created.
Result: The "Up for renewal" segment is ready. You can view the total accounts in this segment, the total revenue from this segment and the revenue in pipeline. Upon clicking this segment, you will be able to view other advanced information about this segment.
In addition to creating a segment from scratch, you can also save segments suggested by ABM suggested based on your accounts

How to edit a segment

The user can edit a segment anytime to change segment name or update segmentation criteria and so on. Whenever the criteria is updated, the list of accounts in the segment is refreshed. This action will bring in a new set of accounts to the segment. 
Notes
Note: You can edit a segment that is static and dynamic. When you save the changes, the accounts list in the segment is refreshed and the dynamic segment will continue to perform its next refresh action per the date and time frame configured for the segment. 

How to delete a segment

You can delete a segment by simply clicking the Delete button and confirming the action.
Removing a parent segment will also remove all the associated child segments.
