Switching to the new help center domain URL

If you have been using the Help Center without mapping your subdomain (for example, support.mycompany.com) to the default domain, this article is for you. When you sign up to use Zoho Desk, your help center's default address is a Zoho Desk subdomain, such as "desk.zoho.com/portal/<mycompany>". After careful evaluation, Zoho Desk has decided to replace your default domain URL format with a more straightforward one like "mycompany.zohodesk.com".

Why this change?
Zoho Desk plans to provide more flexibility to customers w.r.to customization like adding scripts in the help center. As we do it, we want to secure the domains from security exploits that can compromise customer data. Changing the URL format is our first step in that direction. In addition, it also cuts down the length of the domain URL, making it user-friendly.

Next step?
Existing Free and Paid users are requested to switch their default domain address to the new format before May 31, 2022, and June 30, 2022, respectively. You can do this with a click on the Help Center Rebranding page. Note that, except for the change in the URL format, there will be zero impact on the existing pages of your Help Center. Also, when anyone types in or clicks on links in the old URL, they'll be automatically redirected to the corresponding page on the new domain format.

Switching to New Domain URL
You can switch to the new domain URL with a click.

To do this:
  1. Log in to Zoho Desk with Administrator privileges.
    Note:
    Users should have Manage Help Center permission to switch to the new domain URL format.
  2. Go to Setup (  ) > Channels > Help Center.
  3. Select the default Help Center having the unmapped domain.
  4. Click Switch Now on the Switch to New Domain URL window.
Your Help Center URL will switch to the new domain URL instantaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I don't see the option to switch to the new URL?
  1. This switch is not applicable for customers who already have the new domain URL format or have mapped their custom domain to the help center.
  2. You do not have the requisite profile permission to manage the help center. Please check your permissions under Setup > Permissions > Profiles.
2. How long will the redirection from old to new URLs last?
  1. The automatic redirection of your help center pages from the old to the new URL format is permanent and will last forever.
3. Can I continue with the existing URL format?
  1. No, all customers must switch to the new URL format before the deadline.
4. What if I don't switch to the new URL format?
  1. The switch is mandatory for security reasons specified above. Customers who have not transitioned prior to the deadline will be automatically switched to the new URL format.
