Understanding Policies
The Policy feature in Zoho IoT allows you to define a set of permissible actions for devices using MQTT and client certificate authentication. These actions specify the allowed communications between the device and the cloud, enabling the sending and receiving of MQTT messages.
For example, if you want to allow the device only to receive configuration settings from the cloud, you can create a policy with the "Configure Settings" permission enabled. Assign this policy to a certificate and subsequently assign the certificate to the device.
Note: Policies cannot be used directly on devices, but must be associated with certificates, which are in turn associated with devices.
Default Policies
The default policies available in the application are:

Custom Policies
The custom policy options are available under two sections: Device communication with the application and denoting the communication flow. You can create your own custom policy in the application by selecting the desired one or more options that are required for your device.
Adding Policy
As a first step in associating a policy with a device, you need to create the policy. Based on the tasks you want your device to perform, you can select the appropriate options for your policy. The new policy must be associated with a new or existing certificate to become operational.
For example, if you want to allow the device to receive configuration settings from the cloud and execute commands on the device, you can create a policy with the Edge Agent Configuration and Subscribe to Command options selected. Next, assign this policy to a certificate and subsequently assign the certificate to a device.

Associating Certificate with Policy
A policy can be associated to a certificate by following simple steps. Refer to the "Associate Certificate with Policy" section of the "Working with Certificates" document for more details.
Note: Only one policy can be assigned to a certificate. Upon assigning a new policy, the old policy association will cease.

Policy Views
The list view of the certificate can be accessed from the End Application by clicking Devices > Policies in the left default Navigation Menu. The All Policies list view displays all the policies currently available in the application.
