Understanding Command Widgets

Understanding Command Widgets

Command type widgets are used to perform actions such as On/Off, control brightness or volume, etc., on managed entities. You can choose from a list of commands created in the application and associate it with the corresponding widget. These widgets placed on a dashboard are similar to Control Panels from where you can control the required assets remotely.

For example, you can create a Toggle widget and associate the Lights ON/OFF command that was created using the toggle button option. Once configured, the lights can be operated from here.

Re-execute Last Command

Command widgets allow you to quickly re-execute the last command without having to reconfigure parameters. Simply hover over the widget to reveal the execute link, then click it to run the previously executed command again.

You can click on the clock icon on the left bottom corner to view the previously executed commands.

Sample Use Cases:

Consider a scenario where you have an ON/OFF switch controlling a critical device (such as a pump or ventilation system):
You manually turn the device ON by clicking the execute link on the command widget. The system logs this action and remembers the last executed command (ON state).
  1. If the device unexpectedly turns OFF due to a network interruption or system glitch, you can quickly restore its state by clicking the execute link again, which immediately re-executes the last command (ON) without navigating through menus or re-entering parameters.
  2. Similarly, if you need to toggle the device OFF and then back ON again for troubleshooting, you can rapidly execute the same command sequence by repeatedly clicking the execute link, improving response time during critical situations.
