A device application refers to the software layer running on a physical gateway device that connects to the Zoho IoT application. When registering a gateway device in Zoho IoT, users must specify the type of device application running on it. This ensures proper communication between the gateway device and the Zoho IoT application.


Edge Agent

This is a device application provided by Zoho IoT, designed for easy configuration and secure data communication. It simplifies device onboarding, management, and data transmission within the Zoho IoT ecosystem. 

Manufacturer Defined

This refers to a device application developed by the manufacturer of the gateway device. These applications are optimised for specific hardware and often come with built-in support for device management and communication. For example, the Dell Edge Gateway 3000 Series is a commonly used IoT gateway device that runs manufacturer-provided software to facilitate data collection and transmission.

Custom Application

These are device applications developed using the Zoho IoT SDK, allowing businesses to build and customize applications tailored to their specific IoT needs. This approach is ideal for organizations requiring unique configurations, and extended functionalities.
