Zoho IoT applications come equipped with an inbuilt simulator designed to help users simulate data. The simulator is an essential tool when the actual physical device is unavailable. It allows users to replicate the data sent by the device, enabling them to visualize data in key features like dashboards, widgets, data explorer, and reports, as well as effectively test alarm rules.
This feature is supported in the device module for the following device types: Gateway Device, Smart Device, and End Point Device.
For example, if you've added a smart device that monitors temperature and humidity to the Zoho IOT application, you can use the built-in simulator to generate simulated data for these temperature and humidity datapoints.
Simulation Options
The simulator provides the following options for simulating data:
Random: Generates random values within a specified range.
Incremental: Increases or decreases the value incrementally.
Static: Keeps the value constant.
For example, to simulate temperature data, you can choose the "Random" option and specify a range of values, setting a minimum of 26 and a maximum of 30 degrees. The simulator will then randomly generate a value within this range for each datapoint, effectively mimicking the behaviour of a real device.
Benefits of the Inbuilt Simulator
Simulating Data for Assets
Data for assets can be simulated from the respective connected gateway. In the simulator, option is there to select datapoints for a particular asset or all assets' datapoint.
This applies to location and peripheral device type.
Simulating Data for a Device
Note: The simulator must be enabled in the user’s associated profile for them to access this feature.
To access the simulator,
Open the device’s information page.
Click on Action.
Scroll down and select Simulator.
