Configuring Custom Domain

Zoho IoT allows you to configure and use your own domain name for accessing your
application. This enhances both accessibility and brand identity. For example, if your domain is zylker.com, you can access your IoT application using <appname>.zylker.com instead of <appname>.zoho.com. In addition, you can customize the Logo And Title Bar to tailor the user interface to suit you.

As the custom domain mapping is application based, you can create a domain for every application in your portal. In the below case, you can see that two applications:  energymonitoring and dg-monitoring are mapped to two different custom domains in zylker.

This section of the document covers the steps to be performed to map a custom domain and access using the domain URL.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites to configure a custom domain are as follows:
  1. You must own any Zoho IOT Plan that provides privileges for configuring a custom domain.
  2. You must have Administrator privileges in the application.
  3. You must own the domain e.g. zylker.com.

Steps to Configure the Map Custom Domain

The following are the steps to be performed to achieve custom domain mapping.

Mapping Custom Domain to Zoho IOT  application

The first step is to map a custom domain, then verify the ownership of the domain.

To map a custom domain:
  1. Access the Developer Application.
  2. In the Visualize tab, click Rebranding.
  3. Select the Custom Domain tab.
  4. Click the Map Custom Domain button.

  5. Select the Add Domain tab,

    1. Provide the Base Domain and Sub Domain name. The full custom domain name will be displayed in the Full Custom Domain Name text box.

    2. Verify and click Save and Proceed.

Ownership Verification

Any domain must be verified before activating it.

To verify ownership of domain,
  1. Copy the domain information, such as name and value from the Custom Domain Configuration's Verify Ownership tab in the Zoho IOT application as given below.

2. Go to the DNS Management page of your domain provider and create a CNAME record by providing the copied name and value as given below.

3. Once the CNAME record is created in the DNS Management page, Click Verify in the Verify Ownership tab in the application.
4. If the verification fails, the Custom Domain status remains as "Verification Pending" and the Verification Pending Alert is displayed.

Note: The verification process can take a few minutes to hours.

5. Click the Verify Ownership button.

Once the domain is verified, the Custom Domain status will be updated as "Certificate Installation Pending" and the Activation Pending Alert will be displayed.

Image: Activation Pending alert is displayed after verification is passed.

Notes
Note: Once verified, the SSL certificate generation and deployment process will be initiated, and you will receive a mail with subject "Custom Domain energymonitoring.zylker.com has been Verified". And a second mail with subject "SSL Certificate Request".

Within 2-3 days, the SSL certificate will be installed, and you will receive a mail with subject "Custom Domain <domain url> is now Active and Secure." and the same will be reflected in the Custom Domain Configuration page.

Enabling/Disabling Custom Domain

Once the domain is activated, the below screen will be displayed with Status as ON.

A domain can be disabled or deactivated whenever required.

To disable a domain,
  1. Access the Developer application.
  2. In the Visualize tab, click Rebranding.
  3. Select the Custom Domain tab.
  4. Select OFF in the Status toggle button.

5. Click Disable in the Custom Domain Disable Confirmation popup box. The custom domain mapping will be disabled.

WarningWarning: An ERROR will be displayed when the mapping is still enabled, but there is an issue in the domain access due to various reasons. For example, if the domain license has expired and needs to be renewed.

Notes
Note: If there are any errors in domain access, such as the domain license has expired, you need to disable the domain access in the application. After disabling the domain, whenever the custom domain URL is provided to access the application, the user will be redirected to the default application domain.

You will not be able to access the application with any error without disabling the custom domain feature in the application.

Example default application URL:
app661348igilz.zohoiot.com

To enable a domain,
1. Select ON in the Status toggle button.

Deleting Custom Domain

Any custom domain can be deleted when it is not required. It is necessary that the domain is disabled before deletion.

To delete a custom domain mapping,
  1. Access the Developer Application.
  2. In the Visualize tab, click Rebranding.
  3. Select the Custom Domain tab.
  4. Verify that the Status is OFF (i.e. in disabled state)
  5. Click Delete link to delete the mapping.

6. Click Delete in the confirmation screen.

Notes
Note: After deleting, the CNAME must be removed in the DNS Management page of your domain provider. This is to facilitate creating a domain with the same name in future.

After deleting the domain, you will not be able to access the application using the custom domain URL.
