Personalize your email subject line with merge tags and emojis

The subject line of an email often acts as a hook to grab the reader's attention. People tend to skim the subject line to understand what the email is about. There is a high chance the reader might skip over your email if the subject line does not catch their attention.

Using merge tags in an email subject line

The easiest way to grab your email recipient's attention is by personalizing your email subject line. Our easy-to-use merge tags help create custom-made subject lines for the reader.
To personalize your email subject line:
  1. On the email configuration page, click Add Subject.
    Add recipients
  2. Click Personalize and choose the required merge tag from the dropdown. Merge tags are smart tags that pull recipient-specific data directly from your mailing list into your subject line. You can add your recipients’ name, job title, or other details by using merge tags in your subject.

  3. Add a preheader text, if needed, to give a brief preview of your email content.

  4. Click Save.
Note:
  1. If you use your customer's first name by inserting the $[FNAME|Subscriber] merge tag as, "Hey $[FNAME|Subscriber]$, here are your weekly updates," it would appear as "Hey Subscriber, here are your weekly updates" in the subject line.
  2. It is recommended to use a standard subject rather than adding only merge tags in the subject line. For example, if you want to send an email to a recipient about an order delivery, then it should look like, "Hi $[FNAME]$, your shipment is delivered," rather than just saying "$[FNAME]$."

Using emojis in an email subject line

Adding emojis in your email subject line is another way to grab your email recipient's interest. It is an effective technique to increase email open rates and initiate more reader engagement.
To add an emoji in an email subject line:
  1. On the email configuration page, click Add Subject.
    Click on add subject
  2. Click the emoji icon and select the emoji you want to use in your subject line.
    Click on the emoji icon
  3. Add the subject line.
  4. Add a preheader text if needed to give a brief preview of your email content, and click Save.
