Define custom event goal

Understanding custom event goals

You can define custom events and create goals to track their completion. Custom events can be anything from downloading an e book, submitting a form, completing a purchase to redirecting the user to another page etc. It should involve a clicking action.

Why is custom event goal unique?

Custom event goal is different from the other goals. Here, a goal is marked as achieved only when the specified event is successfully completed.  For example you might want to track how many visitors click on a hyperlink in your page and visit the page that gets loaded. In case of a link click goal, the goal is marked achieved once users click the link. whereas, in event click goal, it is marked as achieved only when the other page loads successfully.

Implementing custom goal requires you to add a two line Javascript code in the success function of the AJAX request. This event code will be triggered as the action is performed to send the required conversion metrics to Zoho Marketing Automation.

Only the web pages where the tracking code has been embedded can be tracked.

  2. Give a Name to your goal.

Post goal action set up is optional. You can assign activities and scores to known visitors who have achieved the configured goal. This helps in lead classification.

  1. Click Launch, to get this goal up and running in your website.

Points to remember:

  1. Goals are tracked for both known and anonymous visitors. However, post goals actions can be configured only for known visitors.

  2. Goal metrics can be seen in Reports tab. Goal metrics are calculated for known and anonymous(using cookies) visitors.

  3. Goals can be paused and resumed. No data is recorded when a goal is paused.  A goal stops tracking data when you delete it.
