HTML and Text Import & Export in Zoho Notebook

HTML and Text Import & Export in Zoho Notebook

Overview

Zoho Notebook supports importing content from HTML (.html/.htm) and Text (.txt) files, making it easy to bring your existing documents and notes into Notebook.

Whether you're moving content from another application or working with files stored on your device, you can import them into Notebook and continue organizing and editing your content in one place.

Notebook also provides HTML export options when you need to access or retain your content outside the app.

Use Cases

HTML and Text import can be useful when you want to:

  • Move HTML-based notes or documents from another application to Zoho Notebook.
  • Bring existing plain-text files into Notebook for further editing and organization.
  • Retain supported formatting while importing HTML content.
  • Export a note in HTML format for use outside Notebook.
  • Keep your content in a widely supported format that can be accessed using compatible applications.

Import HTML Files

You can import an HTML (.html/.htm) file into Zoho Notebook, where the content is converted into an editable Text Card.

To import an HTML file

  1. Open Zoho Notebook.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Import HTML.
  4. Select or drag and drop your HTML file.
  5. Start the import.

You can also upload a ZIP (.zip) file containing the HTML file.

Once imported, supported HTML formatting is converted into the corresponding formatting available in Notebook.

Notes

Note:

  • You can import a single HTML file at a time.
  • A ZIP file used for HTML import should contain a single .html or .htm file.
  • HTML elements or styles that aren't supported in Notebook may be simplified during import.

Import Text Files

You can also import a Text (.txt) file into Zoho Notebook. The imported content is added as an editable Text Card.

To import a Text file

  1. Open Zoho Notebook.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Import Text.
  4. Select or drag and drop the .txt file.
  5. Start the import.

Since TXT is a plain-text format, only the text content is imported and rich-text formatting isn't included.

Export a Note as HTML or TXT

You can export an individual note from Zoho Notebook in HTML or TXT format when you want to save or access its content outside Notebook.

To export a note as HTML or TXT

  1. Open the note you want to export.
  2. Select Export As.
  3. Choose HTML or Text as the export format.
  4. Save the exported file to your preferred location.

Choose HTML when you want to retain supported formatting in the exported note. Choose Text when you need the note content as plain text without rich-text formatting.

Export Your Notebook Data as HTML

Zoho Notebook also lets you export your complete Notebook data in HTML format. HTML is available as one of the formats when downloading your Notebook data, along with ZNote.

For detailed steps and more information about downloading your complete Notebook data, refer to Export All Notecards as HTML or ZNote

Things to Know

  • Supported HTML formatting is retained or converted to the closest available Notebook formatting.
  • Advanced or unsupported HTML elements may appear differently after import.
  • TXT files contain plain text and therefore don't retain rich-text formatting.
  • HTML provides a portable format for accessing exported notes outside Zoho Notebook.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is my HTML file not importing into Zoho Notebook?

Make sure the file has a supported.html or .htm extension. If you're importing a ZIP file, ensure that it contains only a single HTML file. If the import still fails, try importing the HTML file directly instead of using the ZIP file.

2. Why does my imported HTML note look different from the original file?

Some HTML elements, styles, or formatting may not have an equivalent in the Notebook editor. Notebook retains supported formatting wherever possible, while unsupported or advanced HTML formatting may be simplified during import.

3. Why are some images or other content missing after importing my HTML file?

Some content in an HTML file may depend on external resources or references that aren't included within the file itself. As a result, certain images or other externally linked content may not be available after import. Check whether the original HTML file contains the content directly or references files stored elsewhere.

4. Why is the formatting from my TXT file missing after import?

TXT files contain plain text and don't store formatting such as headings, bold text, italics, images, or tables. Therefore, only the text content is added to the imported Text Card.

5. My HTML import is taking longer than expected. What should I do?

Keep Notebook open and allow the import some time to complete. If the import remains stuck, retry the import and make sure you have a stable internet connection.

If the issue continues, contact Notebook support with details about the file you're trying to import.

6. Why does my exported HTML note look different when I open it in another application?

The appearance of an HTML file can vary depending on the browser or application used to open it. Try opening the exported file in a different supported browser or HTML-compatible application to check whether the content displays correctly.

7. What should I do if an imported HTML or TXT note contains incomplete content?

First, compare the imported note with the original file and check whether the missing content is present in the source file. For HTML files, also check whether the missing content relies on unsupported formatting or external resources.

If content is still missing unexpectedly, contact support@zohonotebook.com with the affected file and details of the issue so our team can investigate further.
