Switching from Microsoft OneNote to Zoho Notebook is quick and easy with the built-in OneNote migration tool. You can securely import your OneNote notebooks directly into Zoho Notebook without manually copying your notes, allowing you to continue working with your existing content in a more organized note-taking experience.
The migration tool recreates your notebook structure and imports supported note content while preserving your original organization as much as possible.
OneNote migration is available on the Zoho Notebook Web App, Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone, and iPad. Once the migration is complete, your imported notebooks will automatically sync across all devices signed in with the same Zoho account.
Before starting the migration, ensure that:
Note: The migration process copies your data from OneNote to Zoho Notebook. Your original notebooks are not modified or deleted from OneNote, and no existing data in your Zoho Notebook account is deleted or overwritten during the migration.Zoho Notebook imports most commonly used OneNote content, including:
Notebook recreates your notebook hierarchy as closely as possible so you can continue working with minimal changes after migration.
Notebook will begin importing your notebooks in the background.
Once the migration is complete:
While Zoho Notebook does not impose any restrictions on the OneNote migration process, there are a few limitations to be aware of.
Microsoft imposes certain limits that can affect the migration:
Section limit: If your OneNote notebook contains more than 5,000 sections, Microsoft may block access to the content during migration. We recommend splitting the migration into smaller notebooks or reducing the number of sections before trying again.
Folder limit: If the folder count in your OneDrive document library exceeds 5,000, Microsoft may prevent the migration from proceeding. To resolve this, reorganize your OneDrive document library to reduce the folder count below 5,000 by moving, consolidating, or deleting folders that are no longer required.
Note: These limitations are imposed by Microsoft and are outside the control of Zoho Notebook.
During migration, attachments from OneNote are imported into Zoho Notebook as embedded content within Text Cards. They are not automatically created as separate Photo Cards, Video Cards, or File Cards.
After the migration is complete, you can convert the embedded content into individual Photo, Video, or File Cards if you prefer to organize them separately.
Note: The original content is preserved during migration. Only the way it is represented in Zoho Notebook differs from native Notebook cards.1. Can I migrate only selected notebooks?
Yes. During migration, you can choose which OneNote notebooks you want to import.
2. Can I continue using OneNote during migration?
Yes. However, changes made in OneNote after the migration starts are not automatically synchronized with Zoho Notebook.
3. Will my OneNote data be deleted?
No. The migration copies your data into Zoho Notebook and does not modify or delete your OneNote notebooks.
4. Can I migrate again later?
Yes. You can run the migration again if needed. However, previously imported notebooks are not automatically merged or replaced, and duplicate notebooks may be created.
5. What should I do if my migration gets stuck?
If your migration appears to be stuck, first ensure that you have a stable internet connection and allow some additional time for the migration to continue, especially if you're importing large notebooks.
If the migration remains stuck or does not progress after an extended period, do not re-initiate the migration immediately, as doing so may result in duplicate imported notebooks.
