Configuring MCP Server

Overview

Before you can use an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT with Zoho Notebook, you need to set up the Zoho Notebook MCP server. This is a one-time process that creates a secure connection between your Notebook account and any AI tool you choose to use.

Think of it as plugging in a power adapter. Once it is connected, your AI assistant can start working with your notes. This guide walks you through the full setup, step by step.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready before starting:

  • An active Zoho Notebook account (Essential or Premium)
  • Access to the AI client you want to connect (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code)
  • A plan on your AI client that supports third-party integrations

Note:  Your AI client must support MCP integrations. Check your current plan to confirm this is available before proceeding.

Step 1 — Access the Zoho MCP Console

The Zoho MCP Console is the central place where you register and manage your MCP server. All Zoho products, including Zoho Notebook, connect through this single console.

  1. Open your browser and go to mcp.zoho.com
  2. Sign in using your Zoho account credentials
  3. Once logged in, you will land on the MCP Console dashboard

Tip:  If you have multiple Zoho accounts, make sure you sign in with the account linked to your Zoho Notebook data.

Step 2 — Create a New MCP Server

Once you are in the MCP Console, you need to create a new server entry for Zoho Notebook.

  1. Click the Create MCP Server button on the dashboard


  1. Give your server a name, for example: My-Notebook-MCP



  1. Select Add tools and then choose Zoho Notebook from the list of available Zoho services.

Step 3 — Add Zoho Notebook Tools

After creating your server, you need to tell it which actions your AI assistant is allowed to perform. These actions are called Tools.

  1. Once you select the Zoho Notebook from the list of zoho services, you will see a list of available Zoho Notebook tools grouped by category



  1. Select the tools you want to enable. For a standard setup, enable all tools under Notes, Notebooks, Search, Tags, and Reminders



  1. Click Add Now.

Info:  You can always come back and add or remove tools later. Start with the tools you need most and expand from there.
  1. If you would like to configure the server later, in the MCP Console, open your newly created server.
  2. Click Add More Tools to add more actions and tools with the server.



The MCP URL

Each MCP server has a unique URL that AI clients use to connect to it. Your Zoho Notebook MCP URL will look like this:
https://notebook.zoho.com/api/mcp/v1

This URL is specific to your data center region. Zoho Notebook operates across three regions:

Your Server Is Ready

Once authorization is complete, your Zoho Notebook MCP server is live. You can now connect it to any supported AI client.
