Create a poll using AI

Create a poll using AI

AI in Polls helps you create polls by generating relevant questions and answer options from a simple text prompt. Instead of manually building every question, you can describe the type of feedback you want to collect from your website, and PageSense uses the selected AI model to generate a poll questionnaire tailored to your requirements.
Once a poll is generated, you can review the suggested questions, refine the original prompt, regenerate the poll, edit individual questions, modify answer options, configure conditional logic, and customize the poll before publishing.
PageSense supports two AI models for poll generation:
  • Zia โ€“ Zoho's native AI
  • OpenAI
Before using AI-powered poll generation, you must configure an AI model for your project.

Supported AI models

PageSense supports the following AI models for generating polls.

Zia
OpenAI
Zia
Zia is Zoho's native AI model. It is built into PageSense and can be enabled directly from the AI Setup page. After accepting the AI Terms of Use, Zia is immediately available for generating polls and does not require any additional installation.

OpenAI
OpenAI can also be used to generate polls. Unlike Zia, OpenAI requires an additional integration before it can be used. After selecting OpenAI as the preferred AI model, you must install the OpenAI integration and configure your API credentials.

Info Info : You can switch between AI models at any time from Settings > Connect Services > AI Setup.

Configure AI for Polls

Before generating polls with AI, configure the AI model that you want to use.
Navigate to Settings and, under Connect Services, click AI Setup.

Enable the AI-Powered Poll Builder toggle, then select the AI model you want to use.

Accept the AI Terms of Use.

Notes
Note : The remaining setup depends on the AI model you selected.
If you have selected Zia
If you have selected OpenAI
If you have selected Zia
No additional configuration is required. Since Zia is Zoho's native AI model, it is immediately available for AI-powered poll generation.
Note: Zia does not require any integration or API key configuration.

If you have selected OpenAI

OpenAI requires an additional integration before it can be used.

  1. After accepting the AI Terms of Use, click Accept.
  2. You are redirected to the Integrations tab within AI Setup.
  3. Locate OpenAI and click Install.
  4. Grant the required permissions.
  5. Enter your Organization Name and API Key.
  6. Click Save.

Once the integration is complete, OpenAI is available for AI-powered poll generation.
Important: AI-generated polls cannot be created using OpenAI until the integration is successfully configured.

If AI Is Not Configured

If AI has not been configured, attempting to generate a poll using AI displays a notification indicating that AI is not available for the project.
Click Enable in Settings to open the AI Setup page and complete the required configuration.

Create a Poll Using AI

Once AI has been configured, navigate to the Polls module.
The poll creation page provides multiple ways to begin creating a poll.
You can:
  • Generate a poll using AI.
  • Enter your own prompt.
  • Use one of the suggested prompts.
  • Build the poll manually.
PageSense analyzes the prompt and automatically creates a draft poll containing:
  • A suitable poll title.
  • Relevant questions.
  • Suggested answer options.
  • An initial poll structure.
The generated poll opens in the AI Poll Builder, where you can review and modify the content before proceeding.

Write Effective Prompts

The quality of the generated poll depends on the information provided in your prompt. Providing clear objectives and sufficient context helps the AI generate more relevant questions.
For best results, include:
  • The purpose of the poll.
  • The target audience.
  • The type of feedback you want to collect.
  • Preferred response types, if applicable.
  • The number of questions, if required.
For Example

You are an expert UX researcher and customer experience (CX) survey designer.

Design a customer satisfaction poll for Zylker Fashion, an online fashion store selling dresses, shoes, handbags, and accessories. The poll should work for customers regardless of which product category they purchased.

Objective

Create a simple, engaging, and actionable survey that measures customer satisfaction while minimizing survey fatigue. The survey should feel conversational, be easy to complete on desktop and mobile, take less than one minute, and provide meaningful insights.

Survey Structure

  • The survey should contain 3 to 4 questions.

  • Question 1 must always be a 5-point Smiley Rating measuring the customer's overall shopping experience:

    • ๐Ÿ˜ก Very Dissatisfied
    • ๐Ÿ™ Dissatisfied
    • ๐Ÿ˜ Neutral
    • ๐Ÿ™‚ Satisfied
    • ๐Ÿ˜„ Very Satisfied

Branching Logic

Generate different follow-up questions based on the selected rating.

If the rating is ๐Ÿ™‚ or ๐Ÿ˜„ (Satisfied):

  • Identify what contributed most to the positive experience.
  • Cover areas such as product quality, style, fit, delivery, packaging, website experience, or value for money.
  • Include a recommendation or loyalty question.
  • Avoid more than one open-ended question.

If the rating is ๐Ÿ˜ (Neutral):

  • Identify what prevented a better experience.
  • Ask which part of the shopping journey could be improved without using leading or biased language.

If the rating is ๐Ÿ™ or ๐Ÿ˜ก (Dissatisfied):

  • Understand the primary reason for dissatisfaction.
  • Possible topics include product quality, sizing, wrong item, delivery delays, return/refund process, customer support, pricing, or website usability.
  • End with a single optional text question asking how Zylker Fashion can improve.

Question Guidelines

  • Keep questions short, clear, and conversational.
  • Focus on one topic per question.
  • Use simple English suitable for all users.
  • Avoid redundant, demographic, or purchase-history questions.
  • Do not assume which product category the customer purchased unless asking them directly.

NotesTip: Specific prompts generally produce better results than short or generic descriptions.

Ways to Start Creating a Poll

PageSense provides multiple ways to create a poll:

  1. Build with Zia โ€“ Describe the poll in natural language, and Zia generates the initial poll structure automatically. This option is available when Zia is configured as your AI model.
  1. Build with OpenAI โ€“ Describe the poll in natural language, and OpenAI generates the initial poll structure based on your prompt. This option is available when OpenAI is configured and integrated.
  1. Build from Scratch โ€“ Create the poll manually by adding questions, selecting response types, and configuring poll settings yourself. This option is available regardless of whether an AI model has been configured.

Review and Customize the Generated Poll

After PageSense generates the poll, the AI Poll Builder opens. From here, you can review, refine, compare, and customize the generated poll before continuing to the standard Poll Builder.

Review the Generated Poll
Use the available views to verify that the generated poll meets your requirements.
  • Review the Prompt โ€“ Review the AI-generated prompt to ensure it accurately reflects your objective. If needed, refine the prompt to generate a different version of the poll.
  • Preview the Poll โ€“ See how the poll will appear to visitors, including the poll title, questions, answer options, and overall flow.
  • Review Questions โ€“ Examine the generated questions, response types, answer options, and question order before proceeding.
Tip: Always preview the generated poll before publishing, even if your prompt is highly specific.

Compare Poll Versions
Every time you generate or regenerate a poll, PageSense creates a new version.
Use the Version selector to:
  • Compare different AI-generated versions.
  • Switch between previous versions.
  • Continue editing the version that best matches your requirements.
Note: Generating a new version does not overwrite previous versions.

Improve the Generated Poll
Use Refine Prompt when you want to regenerate the entire poll.
Refining the prompt with additional detailsโ€”such as your objective, audience, preferred response type, or the number of questionsโ€”helps AI generate more relevant results.

Improve Individual Questions with Ask Zia
Use Ask Zia to improve a specific question without affecting the rest of the poll.
For example, Ask Zia can help you:
  • Rewrite questions.
  • Simplify wording.
  • Improve tone.
  • Shorten questions.
  • Tailor questions for a specific audience.
Note: Refine Prompt regenerates the entire poll, whereas Ask Zia updates only the selected question.

Save the Generated Poll
Once you have reviewed the generated content, click Save & Next.
The generated poll is saved and opened in the standard Questions builder, where you can continue customizing it before publishing.

Customize the Poll

Edit Questions
You can:
  • Edit question text.
  • Modify answer options.
  • Add or remove answer choices.
  • Rearrange questions.
  • Add new questions.
  • Delete existing questions.
  • Preview your changes.

Change the Question Type

Convert any generated question into a different response type without recreating it.

Supported question types include:
  • Short Answer
  • Long Answer
  • Radio Buttons
  • Checkboxes
  • Email
  • Net Promoter Score (NPS)
  • Five-Point Rating
  • Seven-Point Rating
  • Star Rating
  • Smiley Rating

For example, visitors who completed a purchase can be directed to a satisfaction question, while visitors who did not complete a purchase can be asked why they abandoned the process.
Tip: Use Logic Jump to create personalized poll experiences and improve completion rates.

 Build a Poll from Scratch

If you prefer not to use AI, you can create a poll manually. Click Build from Scratch from the poll creation page.
Enter a name for your poll and proceed to the Questions page, where you can:
  • Add questions manually.
  • Create answer options.
  • Select response types.
  • Configure question settings.
  • Design the poll according to your requirements.
Manual poll creation is available regardless of whether AI has been configured. (Learn more)

Unsaved Changes

If you attempt to leave the Poll Builder before saving your changes, PageSense displays a confirmation message to help prevent accidental data loss.
You can choose one of the following options:
Cancel
Remains on the current page so you can continue editing the poll.
Yes, Continue
Leaves the Poll Builder and discards any unsaved changes.
Notes
Note: Save your changes before navigating away from the page if you want to preserve your work.

Best Practices

Consider the following recommendations when creating AI-generated polls:
  • Clearly describe the objective of your poll in the prompt.
  • Specify the target audience whenever possible.
  • Mention the preferred question type if you have a specific response format in mind.
  • Include the expected number of questions for more structured results.
  • Review all AI-generated questions before publishing.
  • Use Refine Prompt when you want to improve the overall poll generation.
  • Use Ask Zia when you only need to improve individual questions.
  • Preview the generated poll to verify the wording and flow.
  • Apply Logic Jump to create personalized feedback experiences.
  • Test the poll before making it live.

Notes

  • AI-generated polls provide a starting point and can be fully customized before publishing.
  • OpenAI requires an installed integration and valid API credentials before it can be used.
  • Every time you regenerate a poll, PageSense creates a new version, allowing you to compare different outputs.
  • Refining the prompt creates a new version without overwriting previously generated versions.
  • Ask Zia modifies only the selected question and does not regenerate the entire poll.
  • You can switch between AI-generated and manually created polls at any point before publishing.
