Ad Spend Tab in Funnel Analysis

Ad Spend Tab in Funnel Analysis

What Is Google Ad Spend?

Google Ad Spend refers to the total amount of money you invest in campaigns through Google Ads to drive traffic to your website. This includes spending on:
  • Search ads
  • Display ads
  • Campaign-level budgets
  • Keyword bidding
However, tracking spend and clicks alone does not tell you whether your ads are actually guiding visitors through your conversion journey.
To truly measure campaign success, you need to understand:
  • Are visitors progressing through the funnel steps?
  • Where do visitors drop off in the funnel?
  • How much are you spending to move visitors through each stage of the funnel?
  • Are your campaigns effectively driving conversions?
The Ad Spend tab in Zoho PageSense Funnel Analysis connects your Google Ads campaign data directly with funnel performance, allowing you to evaluate the entire user journey - from ad click to final conversion.
Instead of analyzing campaign performance in Google Ads and user behavior separately in PageSense, the Ad Spend tab provides a unified view of Ad Spend + Visitor Journey + Funnel Conversions in one place.

Why This Integration Matters

When you enable Google Ads integration in Funnel Analysis, you can:
  • Understand whether ad traffic successfully progresses through your funnel steps
  • Measure campaign spend against funnel conversions
  • Identify where visitors from ads drop off in the funnel
  • Evaluate which campaigns drive the most successful user journeys
  • Optimize marketing spend based on actual funnel performance
You can also analyze campaign performance by segmenting visitors based on:
  • Visitor type
  • Traffic source
  • Location
  • Audience behavior
This helps you understand which audiences move successfully through your funnel and which ones abandon it early.

Before You Enable Ad Spend Tracking

Make sure the following conditions are met before enabling Ad Spend tracking:
  1. PageSense tracking code must be installed on all relevant pages :
This ensures visitor activity and funnel step progression are tracked correctly.
  2. Visitors must land on pages included in the funnel experiment  :
Only visitors who enter the experiment-enabled pages will be included in the funnel analysis report.
  3. Funnel steps must be configured correctly  :
Each step in the funnel should be properly defined using URL conditions, custom events, or project goals.
  4. Proper campaign URLs must be used  :
Google Ads campaigns should direct visitors to the funnel entry page to ensure accurate tracking.
If the tracking code, funnel configuration, or campaign URLs are incorrect,
funnel progression and conversions may not be recorded accurately.

How to Enable Google Ads Integration

Step 1(a) : Enable at Project Level

Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner.

Navigate to Integrations.

Locate Google Ads.

Click Install.

Sign in with your Google account.

Grant the required permissions.

Select the Google Ads account you want to integrate.

Click Save.

Step 1(b) : Enable Inside the Funnel experiment (Alternative option)

Alternatively, you can enable the integration directly from the Funnel Analysis module.
This serves as an alternative to the project-level configuration. If Google Ads integration has already been configured at the project level, you do not need to configure it again inside Funnel Analysis.
To enable from the Funnel Analysis experiment:
Navigate to the Track module.

Open the required Funnel Analysis experiment.

Go to the Reports tab and Select the Ad Spend.

Step 2: Wait for Data Sync

After enabling integration:
  1. Campaign data may take up to 24 hours to appear.
  2. Metrics will start populating inside the Ad Spend report once synchronization is complete.

What You Can Analyze in the Ad Spend Tab

All Campaigns Overview

This section displays combined campaign performance metrics for all Google Ads campaigns driving traffic to your funnel pages.

Key Metrics Explained

Impressions
  1. The number of times your ads were displayed across Google search results or display networks.
  2. This metric helps measure campaign visibility and reach.
  3. Higher impressions indicate your ads are being shown frequently to potential visitors.

Clicks
  1. The number of users who clicked your ad and landed on your funnel entry page.
  2. Higher click numbers generally indicate that your ad copy and targeting are relevant to the audience.

Cost (Ad Spend)
  1. The total amount spent on your campaigns during the selected reporting period.
  2. The Total Spend metric in the All Campaigns section shows combined spending across all campaigns linked to the funnel pages.

Conversions
Funnel conversions represent the number of visitors who clicked your ad and successfully completed the final step of the funnel.
This metric helps connect advertising investment with actual conversion outcomes.
By analyzing this data, you can identify:
  • Which campaigns drive the highest conversions
  • Which keywords generate successful funnel completions
  • Which campaigns lead to early funnel drop-offs

Click-Through Rate (CTR)
CTR measures the percentage of users who clicked your ad after seeing it.
CTR is calculated as:
CTR = (Clicks ÷ Impressions) × 100
Example - If your ad appeared 200 times and received 15 clicks, the CTR would be 7.5%.

Cost Per Conversion
Cost per Conversion measures how much you spend on advertising to achieve a successful funnel completion.
Formula:
Cost per Conversion = Total Spend ÷ Total Conversions
This metric is critical for evaluating campaign profitability.
  • Lower cost per conversion indicates better campaign efficiency.
  • Higher cost per conversion may signal the need for funnel optimization or targeting improvements.

How to Use Ad Spend Insights Strategically

Ad Spend reporting allows you to make data-driven marketing decisions by connecting ad campaigns with funnel behavior.
You can use these insights to:
  • Pause campaigns that drive traffic but do not progress through the funnel
  • Increase budget for campaigns generating successful funnel completions
  • Identify funnel steps where ad traffic drops off
  • Optimize landing pages connected to ad campaigns
  • Refine targeting strategies to attract high-intent visitors
Instead of optimizing campaigns based only on clicks or impressions, you can optimize them based on actual conversion journeys.

Summary

The Ad Spend tab in Funnel Analysis connects the entire marketing and conversion journey:
Ad impressions → Ad clicks → Funnel progression → Final conversion → Cost efficiency
By combining Google Ads data with funnel analytics, PageSense enables you to measure the true impact of your advertising campaigns, helping you optimize both ad spend and conversion performance.
