How to create a session recordings using advanced url targeting options in Zoho PageSense?

Create a session recording using advanced URL targeting options

In PageSense, you can choose to record activities of visitors on a specific target page or group of pages using the Advanced URL targeting option. This allows you to select the appropriate URL patterns, such as “URL path” or “URL parameter” attributes, and comparisons, such as “ends with”, “starts with”, “matches the regular expression”, and many more, to precisely match the page URLs on which you want to record your users sessions. Moreover, URL targeting also lets you exclude a set of web pages on your site that you don’t want to track and view session behavior for

IdeaFor example, let's say you are only interested in seeing people go through the checkout page on your ecommerce site. Instead of tracking everything on www.zylkerfashions.com, you can set up Recordings to activate when someone visits www.zylkerfashions.com/checkout.

To create a session recording using advanced URL targeting options:
1. Click Session Recording on the left pane, then the New Session Recording button.

2. Add a descriptive name for your session recording in the Name field and click Create.
IdeaFor example, let's say you are only interested in seeing people who arrive on the Shopping cart and payment page of your ecommerce site. We'll name this recording 'Cart and Checkout Pages'.

3. You can add new web pages by clicking the + icon, and even mention the URLs of the pages to be excluded from your session recording by clicking the Exclude Pages option.
Based on our example, you can now set up recording to activate when customers visits https://zylkerfashionstore.zohostore.com/cart and
https://zylkerfashionstore.zohostore.com/checkout of your shopping website, and additionally exclude screen recordings for customers visiting the product page https://zylkerfashionstore.zohostore.com/products of your shopping site, as shown below.

4. Choose the visitor limit to be set as an end condition for running your session recording.
By default, the Visitors option is set to 2000; however, you can set the limit to a maximum of 10000 to stop the recordings.

5.  Click Next to select the type of audience you want to run the session recording under the AUDIENCE tab.
By default, Zoho PageSense will set the target audience to All Visitors. However, you can choose from the preset audience group or create a new segment by clicking the +Custom Audience button.

6. Click Next to navigate to the PRIVACY tab, then enter the selector IDs of the elements you wish to mask in recordings within the Elements to Mask text box. You can add multiple selector IDs for elements across the page.

You can also click the Select elements directly from the web page option to choose elements directly from the web page. Alternatively, you can mask elements using custom attribute zps-mask to hide any element you want.

Furthermore, you can use the Advanced options to enable the following options:

  • Mask all Input Elements: Enabling this option will mask all input elements such as <input>, <button>, <select>, <label>, and <textarea> on your page.

  • Hide URL Query-Parameters: Enabling this option will hide query-parameters displayed in all URLs of your recordings.

Notes
Note:
  • The elements you choose to mask on your web page will not be recorded or stored in your PageSense session recordings.

  • By default, all the inputs that your visitors enter on your web page will be replaced by asterisks (*).

  • Zoho PageSense uses cookie-based tracking setup to ensure that you have your users' proper consent before tracking their personal information on your website.

7. Click Activate to launch the session recordings to your chosen audience segments on the website.

PageSense will now begin to record your visitors interaction and behavior on the specified web page, and further show the relevant metrics under the RECORDINGS tab. However, if you wish to make changes to your session, click the Pause button at the top-right corner, then click Relaunch to run the experiment again.
