Renaming System Default Field Labels using Translations in Zoho CRM

Requirement Overview: 


Clients / Users want to use the terminologies that are specific to their business as field labels to identify the field values. But the system default field labels are not editable in Zoho CRM.

They want to rename the label of the system default field to a name that corresponds to their line of business or business process.

As per the known behavior, System Default Fields in Zoho CRM cannot be renamed to a name of your choice.

Permissions and Availability:

  1. Translation Feature is supported on Zoho CRM Enterprise and Ultimate Edition.
  2. Only the Super Admin or Admin can enable or disable the Translation.

 

Example:


Let's say that the Client wants to rename the Label of the "
Company" Field to "Organization" or Label of the "State" under the Address section to "Province" to suit the business terminologies.

You will encounter the message saying "Cannot edit this property of system default field" and the section will be disabled as shown in the below screenshot.

How to Rename the Field Labels in Zoho CRM:

     Kindly login as the Super Admin / Admin and go to Zoho CRM > Setup.

     Customization > Click on "Translations".

     Under the Translation Settings Tab, click on the Toggle button to enable the Translation.

     Export the Translation by clicking on the "Export as file" adjacent to the Language Name.

 



     Open the downloaded translation file and find the field labels & equivalent value as shown below.

 

Translation values to change or replaced.

"Field.Leads.Company=Organisation" & "Field.Leads.State=Province"

     Once updated in the file, please save it and import it in the Translation Page from where you downloaded it.

 

Now, refresh the page and access the Lead Record where you can find the Label for the System Default Fields renamed.

Note:

 Translation Feature needs to be enabled to display the Labels that are renamed

 If the Translation is disabled or deleted, it will display the original label name

 Users need to choose the same translated language to view the same label names. For eg. if the Translated Language is English US and the User has set English UK, then it would not show the changed labels.
