Extending a service in Zoho People

What do we mean by Extend Service in Zoho People?

The Extend Service tab within the settings pages of various services allows for extending the default capabilities of a service. Each organization is unique and may come with its own set of requirements. This can be achieved by editing the forms that are part of the service or adding a new custom form to the service. Custom Buttons can also be added, which can be used to perform an automated action such as executing a work flow. 

Forms

To access the extend service feature go to the Extend Service tab available within the settings page of any service. For example:
Settings > Leave > Extend Service



  1. Click Move Form to move a form from another service to here.
  2. To edit an existing form click on the form name in the form listing.
  3. To add a new form click on Add Form (within the Add Form page, u will have an option to clone an existing form or start from scratch)


The Add Form wizard guides you throw the creation process. You can drag and drop fields to customize the form. Permissions can also be configured. Click here to learn more about creating forms. 

Custom Buttton

Custom Buttons are used to add specialized actions such as triggering an workflow or triggering an mail alert. You can add customized buttons for different actions thereby making the system more flexible and customizable. Custom Butons can be benefecial for both Administrators and other employees. 

Here is a short summary of what can be achieved using custom buttons:
  1. It enables you to manually trigger an specialized action at the click of a button.
  2. Custom buttons can be directly listed within the record view / record listing of a form, allowing for extending the capabilities of the form. 
  3. Utilizing Custom Action, you can trigger mail alerts, set field updates and initiate custom functions.
  4. The Add Links option aids in accessing links of internal and external sources in the form itself.
  5. Documents can be added to the form to be downloaded and read as a part of the form using the Document Download option. 
To add a Custom Button, Go to the Extend Service > Custom Button page of any settings service. For Example: Settings > Leave > Extend Services > Custom Button and choose between Custom Action, Document Download, or Add Link
