Task Dependency Settings

Configure task dependency settings to control how successor tasks are adjusted when the predecessor task changes. You can also set a default dependency type and dependency link behavior. 

Benefits:

  1. Move up dates of successor tasks if the predecessor task moves up
  2. Extend due dates of successor tasks if the predecessor task is extended
  3. Change schedule of successor tasks based on completion of the predecessor tasks
  4. Set the default dependency type which can be changed when setting dependency
  5. Control how strictly dependencies are enforced between tasks

Configure Dependency Settings

  1. Click  in the upper-right corner of Zoho Projects and select Portal Configuration.
  2. Navigate to Task & Timesheet.
  3. Click the Task Settings tab.
  4. Enable or disable the required dependency options under Org Level Task Dependency.
  5. Click Update.

Set Default Dependency Type

You can configure the default dependency type and how dependencies behave across tasks.

  1. Click  in the upper-right corner and select Portal Configuration.
  2. Navigate to Task & Timesheet.
  3. In the Task Settings tab:
    1. Select a value from the Default Dependency Type drop-down.
      1. This defines the dependency relationship between tasks by default when tasks are connected in the Gantt Chart. The dependency type can be changed later, if required.
    2. Choose a Dependency Link Type.
      1. Hard Link: Successor task dates are automatically adjusted based on changes in the predecessor task.
      2. Soft Link: Successor tasks remain unchanged even if the predecessor task is modified.
  4. Click Update.

For example, when the predecessor task Design is moved to March 13, the successor task Development is automatically moved to March 14 in a hard link, whereas it remains on its original date in a soft link.

Notes
When selecting Automatic, the dependency type will be assigned automatically based on the dates specified for the parent and child tasks. Automatic is most useful when you don't want to shift the dates for the child task.
The Default dependency is applicable for all dependencies set in the list views. The Gantt chart offers users the flexibility to add any type of dependency based on the drag-and-drop action.
