Understand Web Testing

Overview

Test cases are steps required to perform an action. They contain a series of inputs to be provided, and expected outcomes to be validated for an action or a function that has to be tested. Zoho QEngine offers the flexibility to create test cases for various platforms through the Platform Switch option. Users can choose the specific platform they want to testweb browser, Android, iOS, or API. In this document we will learn about web testing.

Web testing focuses on ensuring that the website or web application (app) is working as intended and meets the user's expectations. Its purpose is to identify and address any issues or defects in the app before it is released to users. This ensures a high-quality user experience and minimizes the need for troubleshooting down the line. For example, testing can involve signing into a website to check its functionalities, or simply validating an error message for a mandatory field on a form.

Zoho QEngine's web testing feature facilitates automated testing of applications running on various web browsers. It captures your test requirements in the form of test cases, evaluates your app's functionality using its own predefined tasks , and helps you optimize your web services or apps for faster access and greater usability.

Key web testing features in Zoho QEngine:

  • Test Recorder
Create test cases without manually writing test scripts. The test recorder captures every action you perform on web or mobile apps, including the locators for the interacted elements. Recorded actions are automatically converted into test steps for your test cases.
  • Task Panel
The task panel contains a list of tasks for different platformsweb, Android, iOS, and API. Users can drag-and-drop or double-click a task to move it to the test case editor.
  • Test Case Editor
The editor provides two modes for writing test cases: Editor and Builder modes. The Editor mode is for automation experts who prefer to script directly. Builder mode is ideal for new and first-time testers.
  • Auto-completion
The auto-suggestion feature helps with writing test cases. It auto-suggests tasks, previously saved parameter values, and functions that are saved within the same module as the test case. In addition, it provides suggestions for page elements and variables for substitutions.
  • Compiler
The built-in compiler catches incorrect/missing arguments in tasks and inconsistencies within test cases. The compiler throws warnings if you try to save test cases without addressing these discrepancies.
  • Manual View
Create test cases requiring human intervention, such as manual writing of tests, conditions, and expected outcomes. This view comes with a text editor for pre-conditions, test steps, and expected outcomes. Users can also attach relevant files to their test cases.
  • Versioning
Maintain versions for every test case created. Users can compare and restore previous versions.
  1. Refer Elements
Get instant access to all elements created using the Refer Elements option. Review, copy, and add new elements, if necessary.
