VDB

Returns the depreciation of an asset for a given period using the variable declining-balance method.

 

Syntax

 

VDB(original_cost; salvage_value; lifetime; period_start; period_end; [factor]; [straight_line])

original_cost: The initial cost of the asset. Eg., 50000

salvage_value: Value at the end of the depreciation. Eg., 35000

lifetime: The number of periods over which the asset is depreciated. Eg., 6

period_start: The start period of the depreciation. Eg., 2

period_end: The end period of the depreciation.  Eg., 4

factor: The rate at which the balance declines. Defaults to 2 if omitted. Eg., 1.5

straight_line: Determines whether the function must switch to straight line depreciation or not. Defaults to FALSE if omitted.

TRUE - does not switch to straight line depreciation

FALSE - switches to straight line depreciation


Remarks

  • The  lifetime period_start, and  period_end  values must be of the same unit.

Meaning

#N/A!

  • The function could not find the value it was asked to look for. Commonly occurs in VLOOKUP and similar functions.

#NAME!

  • The function name is incorrect or invalid.

  • The given defined name (if any) is invalid.

  • There is a typo in the defined name used in the function.

  • Double quotes are missing for text values in the function.

  • Colon missing in a cell range reference.

#VALUE!

  • The given argument's data type is incorrect or invalid.
    For example, the function =DATE(A1:A3) will return a #VALUE error when a text value is present in the range.

#REF!

  • The given cell reference is incorrect or invalid. This error may occur when a cell/range has been deleted, moved, or pasted over.
