TYPE

Returns a number specifying the type of the given value.

Syntax

TYPE(value)

value: The value given as input. E.g. TRUE

TYPE function returns:

1 - if value is a number

2 - if value is a text

4 - if value is a boolean

16 - if value is an error

64 - if value is an array

128 - for any other type

Examples

Formula	Result
=TYPE(TRUE)	4
=TYPE({4,3,2})	64
=TYPE("Zoho")	2

Possible Errors

Errors	Meaning
#N/A!	The function could not find the value it was asked to look for. Commonly occurs in VLOOKUP and similar functions.
#NAME!	The function name is incorrect or invalid. The given defined name (if any) is invalid. There is a typo in the defined name used in the function. Double quotes are missing for text values in the function. Colon missing in a cell range reference.
#VALUE!	The given argument's data type is incorrect or invalid. For example, the function =DATE(A1:A3) will return a #VALUE error when a text value is present in the range.
#REF!	The given cell reference is incorrect or invalid. This error may occur when a cell/range has been deleted, moved, or pasted over.

Apply borders
To apply border to a cell: Select a cell you wish to apply borders to. Tap under the Home menu. From Borders dialog, you can select the border type, line type and line color.
Search for the sheet name in your workbook
To search the name of any preferred sheet: Go to the status bar, click and type the preferred sheet name in the search bar.
Rename a worksheet
To rename a worksheet: Tap on the sheet that you want to rename. Tap ... from the contextual menu. Choose to Rename. Type the desired name and tap Rename.
Custom sort data
To sort the desired data based on other columns in your data: Select the range of cells you wish to custom sort. Tap Custom Sort under the Data menu to customize the type of sorting. Select the type of sort from the drop-down and tap Apply.
Insert a note
To insert a note: Tap the desired cell on which you wish to insert the note. Go to the icon. Under the Insert menu, choose Note. Type in the desired content for the note and tap on ✓.
