Freeze rows/columns
To freeze first row/column
To freeze panes up to selected row/column

Place your selection on the cell, the rows and columns before which you wish to freeze.

Click View > Freeze > Up to selected row or column.

The range will be frozen from the first row or column respectively.
To freeze a selected range
- Select the cell range you'd like to freeze.
- Click View > Freeze > Selection > choose the desired range to freeze.
To unfreeze panes
