What is a slicer?
A slicer is more of a visual filter that helps you quickly filter data from one or more associated pivot tables. You can insert one or more slicers to filter your data.
Slicer shows the data of the selected fields in the form of buttons. You can select/deselect the item by clicking the respective buttons. When a button is selected, it will be in active state, and deselected, it will be in inactive state and when an item is not filtered, the button will be in partially-active state.
How to add a slicer?
To add a slicer to your pivot table:
Go to Data > Pivot Table > Add Slicer.
- Alternatively, you can right-click on any preferred pivot table and select Add Slicer from the contextual menu.
- Choose the preferred data fields from the list and click OK.
How to filter data using a slicer?
To filter data using slicer:
Select the preferred slicer and click
to turn multiple selections on or off.
Alternatively, from the side pane, under the General tab, you can choose the type of selection and sorting.
- To clear the filter, click or select the Clear option from the side pane.
How to delete a slicer?
To delete a slicer:
- Right-click on the preferred slicer and select Delete from the contextual menu.
- Alternatively, you can select the Remove option from the side pane to delete the slicer.
To customize a slicer and its buttons:
From the side pane, under the Design tab, you can choose to customize the preferred slicer's display header, style, and font as well as the button's column layout, width and height.
How to filter data in multiple pivot tables?
While filters in a pivot table allows you to filter data only in the selected pivot table, slicers allow you to filter data in multiple associated pivot tables simultaneously.
