Send direct messages in Zoho Shifts

Send Direct Messages

Reach your team member or manager instantly using the direct message option in Zoho Shifts. Based on the organization setting for messages and permissions for messaging, you will be able to interact with your team members using chat.

Before you start

To send direct message to your colleagues using chat, you’ll need the Send direct messages permission enabled.

  1. Navigate to the Messages menu in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Contacts or Chats from the left pane.
  3. Enter the name of the employee in the Search Contact space, click on the contact to open the chat window.
  4. You can send direct messages to the contact using this chat window.

On mobile
  1. Tap Messages from the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap + at the top-right corner.
  3. Tap on the contact listed in the Start chat screen to initiate a new conversation. 

Share files and images 

Apart from the usual text messages, you can also share attachments using the chat window. This helps you with instantly share any important documents, images or any other files to your colleagues.
To share files to the contact using chat:

  1. Click the attachment icon in the bottom-left corner of the chat window.
  2. Choose the relevant file from your device using the pop-up window.
  3. Click the Open button.
  4. Add comments to the attachment using the text box, if required.
  5. Use +Add files link at the bottom-left corner to attach more files.
  6. Click the Share button to send the file to the contact.

On mobile
To send images to an individual chat or channel using Zoho Shifts mobile app:
  1. Tap + in the bottom-right corner of the chat window
  2. Tap Camera to take a photo.
  3. Tap Photo Library to select any photo from your device's gallery.
  4. Tap File to select any documents from your device.
  5. After choosing the relevant files, type any comments for the attachment.
  6. Tap the send icon -> to share the file with the contact.

Mute chats or contacts

Muting a chat or channel helps to stop any notifications for the conversation happening in that chat. This helps with less distraction and you can view those messages at your convenience. We have options to choose the duration for how long you wanted to mute the chat.

To mute the chat with the contact:

  1. Choose the chat from the Messages tab.
  2. Select Actions.
  3. Hover over Mute chat and choose the time duration, such as 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, or forever, that you want to mute the chat.
