Hashtags are words or groups of words prefixed with ‘#’ that make content searchable. When users click or search for a hashtag, they can view all posts related to that topic, helping your content become more discoverable. For example, searching for #travel will display posts associated with travel.
With the large volume of content published every day on our social media channels, hashtags make it easy for users to find relevant posts and help brands group their content effectively.
Example
Zylker Travels announces a 25% discount on a family travel package to Singapore. To drive engagement, the caption for their social media post includes relevant hashtags. Some of the hashtags that can be used are:
- #zylkertravels – Reinforces brand identity and increases top-of-mind recall among the audience.
- #travel – A broad category hashtag that helps reach people interested in travel-related content.
- #traveltosingapore – Attracts an audience specifically planning or interested in a Singapore trip.
- #MyZylkerMoment – Encourages customers to share memories, reviews, and experiences, helping build community engagement.
- #familytrip, #travelwithzylker, #familydestinations, #singaporewithfamily, #traveloffer – These targeted hashtags narrow down the audience and make the content more relevant for families looking for specific travel offers.
Using all these hashtags together increases visibility, improves audience targeting, and helps Zylker Travels reach the right people at the right time.
Need for Hashtag analytics: Understanding what works
Adding hashtags to a post is not a magic trick that instantly boosts engagement. Simply combining popular or trending hashtags and hoping the post goes viral rarely delivers results. What truly matters is being intentional.
Start with a clear goal for your post. Ask yourself:
What am I trying to achieve with this content?
For example, reaching a new audience, promoting an offer, driving event registrations, increasing website visits, or building brand recall.
When the hashtags you choose align with the purpose of your post, you’re more likely to reach the right audience and see meaningful engagement.
This is where hashtag analytics becomes essential which helps you understand which hashtags contribute to performance and which do not.
