You will have three status by default on your board:
To Do, In Progress, and
Done . Apart from these three predefined statuses, you can also add custom status to your board.
Why custom status?
You tend to add custom status on your board based on the work load in your project or your business requirement. These custom statuses are organized on your board and as and when the work progresses, you move it across the respective statuses.
This is how all the statuses look like from your settings

and click

Click

Status

Your new status will be added in your board.
It's mandatory to have at least one status in each type (Open, In progress, and Closed) in your project.

You can reorder the status on your board the way you prefer. The sequence number will be changed accordingly once you reorder the status.

Work in progress limit
Work in progress limits are the predefined set of values that you limit to a particular status on your board. Restricting a particular number of work items in a status helps the sprint team to keep up with the progress in an organized way. Check out how WIP works on your
board .
In Zoho Sprints, we offer four different work in progress types:
- No. of work items
- No. of work items including sub items

Custom item type
Creating a custom item type helps you manage your project activities effectively by differentiating and categorizing the requirements.
For example, you may wish to add terms for items you're working on. In this case, you may require more item types to distinguish your work types clearly. If you're looking to create custom item types, we provide the ability to customize item types according to your preferences.
Business scenario 1
Mark runs a banking sector and uses Zoho Sprints to manage all his project activities. His team added the following four stories for the month:
Story 1: Gather the RD forms and submit to Reserve bank for approval.
Story 2: Open 50 life insurance policies this month.
Story 3: Process the checks for this week and credit them to the appropriate accounts.
Story 4: Validate the loans and process them by Jan 2018.
Instead of having separate tasks for every story, the team can create custom item types and group the relevant items under one 'Item Type'. This helps them to filter the items by group in the future. Here's how they create custom item types in the project.
Custom Work Item Types
- RD forms
- FD forms
- Life insurance applicant list
- Check details
- Car loans
- Home loans
- Education loans
Jenny runs a software sector and uses Zoho Sprints to manage her client requirements. Using custom item type, she can manage every process of her team effectively by segregating the items in the respective item types.
Client Requirements
Story 1: Create a personal detail form to store the customer details in the database.
Story 2: Design a support icon inside the form and redirect it to the client support desk.
Story 3: Design a good illustration explaining the process of server review.
Story 4: Design the like and dislike buttons in every customer portal and evaluate the data accordingly.
Story 5: Develop net and mobile banking option in payment section.
Every story listed above has two or three different types of work that need to be accomplished to complete the story. Instead of having a single story with different elements, Jenny can create custom item type to differentiate the type of work.
