Import Survey
Overview
The Import Survey feature helps you upload questionnaire files or create questions in bulk without actually using the question types. When you are new to surveys, making use of Import Survey can help you create surveys faster.
Use Cases
Customer Feedback Survey
Consider your Manager has shared 50 questionnaires as a file for Customer feedback, and you're required to create a survey using them. Instead of creating a survey form scratch referring to the questionnaire, you can directly upload the file using Zoho Survey's Import Survey Feature, thus saving time and effort.
Hospital Survey
Consider in a hospital the Doctors share a list of questions that should be asked to each patient for a feedback survey. The IT team of the hospital can create a survey easily by feeding the questions into the Quick editor.
Accessibility
The Import Survey feature is accessible to anyone who has registered for Zoho Survey. Users on the free plan can import a maximum of 10 questions, while users on other paid plans can import up to 50 questions of their choice.
Format
The format specified below should be followed to create questions using Import Survey
- Each question should be separated with a line gap.
- In case of multiple choice questions, each set of answer choices should be placed on new lines directly below the respective question.
- Double line gaps should be put between the rows and columns to add matrix-type questions.
Note: While using Create with Quick Editor, follow the format to create the survey.
How to Import Survey
- Log in to your Zoho Survey account and navigate to the Survey Builder.
- To upload the question file, select the Import Survey tab and click Choose File.
3. Click on the Create button at the end, and the questions will be converted as a Survey in the builder.
Add or Edit Questions in the Quick Editor
To add questions in the Quick Editor, refer to question format.
To edit questions uploaded in the Import Survey question panel, all you need to do is hover the cursor near the question, select and modify the words.
Follow the detailed steps below to edit questions:
- Go to the specific question you wish to edit.
- Select the words you wish to edit/ delete and add the new text.
- To save the changes, click enter.
Note:
Only .docx, .doc and .txt file formats are supported for file uploads
The maximum file size that can be uploaded is 500 KB.
Modify Question Type in the Quick Editor
In order to change the question type, click on the top right dropdown icon of each question in the question panel and change the type as per your requirement.
Follow the detailed steps below:
- First check if the question you've added is created in the preview panel
- Then click on the top right dropdown menu and select the question type into which you want to modify the existing question.
Format Questions using AI
- Open the Quick Editor and select Format with AI to modify the alignment of survey questions or question types. You can do this before or after publishing the survey.
- Hover over the question you want to update and click the Edit icon.
- Make the required changes, then click Save to apply them.
Points To Note:
To use the Quick Editor, Gen AI must be enabled for your account. If it’s not enabled, contact your account admin to turn it on. Read more (Will add AI help document link here)

- Can I add questions to my survey using the Builder or survey templates even after using the Import Survey feature?
Yes, you can add questions using the builder or survey templates even if questions are built using Import Survey.
- How can I add logic to the questions?
You can add logic to questions as per your requirement in the survey builder after importing the questions.
- Can I use the scoring for each question once I add questions using the Import Survey?
Yes, the scoring feature is available even if the questions are added using the Import Survey feature.
- Can I import questions along with answer choices?
Yes, you can add questions with the answer choices, but the format should be followed to convert them as a survey question options.
- Can I import questions into an existing survey or only into new surveys?
The Import Survey feature is exclusively for creating a new survey. However, you can add questions to existing surveys using the bulk question builder or survey templates.
- Can I import survey questions including images or multimedia content?
Image (.jpg) files are not supported for Import Survey. However, once the questions are uploaded, multimedia files can be added in the editor.
- What happens to existing questions in my survey when I import new questions?
The existing questions will remain unchanged. Only the new questions shall be added to the survey.
