Step by Step Instructions to Create an Inline Email in Zoho Survey - Online Help Guide

Inline Email

Inline emails work perfectly when you want to embed a question from your survey in an email. Select a question, and you can distribute the survey over email with the help of an HTML setup that works with any email marketing software. Selecting an answer from the email takes your respondent to the live form URL. You can also add custom variables within the HTML code to identify the respondents.

To create an inline email:

  1. Open a survey you have created, then click the Launch tab.
  2. Click Inline Email on the left pane.

  3. Select a question from the Question dropdown list.
  4. Select a service to distribute your survey over email in the Email distribution service dropdown list.
  5. Add a parameter name in the Parameter name field. If you haven't created any custom variables yet, click Create Custom Variables to create one. The custom variables you create will get listed here. For example, if you'd like to send the updated records to a contact module, you need to create a custom variable "zs_contacts" and add direct value as ${Contacts.Contact Id}.
  6. Select a parameter value appropriate to the parameter name you selected. You can select Direct value and enter more merge tags as parameter values as well.
    1. Click + to add more parameters.
    2. Click X to delete a parameter.
  7. Click Generate HTML.
  8. Click Copy in the HTML embed section to copy the code generated.



Notes
  1. We support standard merge tags as parameter values for each of these email distribution services. However, all these services will have more merge tags that you can insert in the templates by using direct value. These merge tags will get replaced with the parameter values assigned to the custom variables. For example, take a look at the list of merge tags Zoho CRM and Zoho Campaigns support.
  1. If you have only one question in your survey, you can select Settings > Skip the first page if all the questions are prepopulated checkbox to avoid your respondents from getting redirected to a new page to submit their response.

Preview

You can see a preview of the inline email you just created in the Preview section.


Reconfigure

Click Reconfigure in the Generated HTML section if you want to generate the HTML code again.



Restrictions

You can use the Restrictions section within the Launch tab to apply various restrictions, such as preventing multiple responses and setting a response limit.



Supported Questions

Inline email only supports a specific set of questions to be embedded in an email: Multiple Choice (one answer and many answers), Rating Scale (Star, Likert, and Weighted choice), Dropdown, Boolean (Yes/No), and Net Promoter Score.
