Default Language and Additional Languages

The Languages section enables you to change the default language and add additional languages to the survey.

Default Language

To change the default language of your survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. Select a default language from the Language dropdown list in the Default Language section.

Additional Languages

With Zoho Survey's additional languages, you can increase the reach of your surveys by translating them into more than 75 languages. This can be done in three ways:
  1. Google Translate
  2. Spreadsheet
  3. Editor 

Use Cases:

Let's say you are running a successful business in England and want to know if your business can thrive in the French, German, and Spanish markets. You can send a market assessment survey in the applicable languages to make it easier for respondents to provide feedback. The survey's default language changes according to the user's browser language and provides options for adjusting the language further.
Let's say you are a lecturer at a well-established university. You must collect feedback from a linguistically diverse group of students. To do this, you can use the Additional Language feature. With the default language changing according to each student's browser language and providing multiple language choices, you can effectively gather numerous responses for a survey.

To enable Google Translate for your Zoho Survey account:

  1. Click Manage Portal in the profile widget.

  2. Click on Apps and Services under the Portal Setup pane.

  3. Navigate to Google Translate and click Enable.

Note
You can also enable Google Translate by adding a language from the Languages in Settings, clicking on Translate under Google Translate, followed by Setup - Apps and Services.

To add additional languages to a survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. Select Add Language and select the language of your choice in the Languages dropdown list.

  3. Click Next. Choose a method for translating your survey:
    1. Using Google Translate:
      1. Click Translate.
      2. The survey will be translated into your selected language.
    2. Using a spreadsheet:
      1. Click Download Source to download the survey's source file for translation.
      2. Manually translate the survey. Then, click Continue.
      3. Drag and drop the manually translated file or select it by clicking Browse.
      4. Click ADD.
    3. Using the editor:
      1. Click Continue.
      2. Edit the Builder section contents by following the steps below:
        1. Click Use Translated to translate the contents of a textbox using Google Translate.
        2. Create new labels manually for each question and all choices. 
      3. Edit the contents of the Settings section by following the steps below:
        1. Click Use Translated to translate the contents of the textbox using Google Translate.
        2. Type in new labels manually for each section.
      4. Edit the contents of the Launch section by following the steps below:
        1. Click Use Translated to translate the contents of the textbox using Google Translate.
        2. Type in new labels manually for each section.
        3. Click Update.
          Note
          The Launch section in the translation editor is available only when Password Restriction is enabled for your survey.

Note

You can add a language not available in the list, (i.e. not supported by Google Translate) by making a request at support@zohosurvey.com. Once your preferred language is added to the list, you will be able to translate the language manually, for that particular survey.

To rearrange the order of available languages on a survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. From the list of survey languages, find the language you wish to move and hover over it. 
  3. Click and drag <...> to the required position.

To preview an additional language in a survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. In the Additional Languages section, clickCreate online surveyson the required language. You'll see a preview of the translated survey. 

To edit an additional language in a survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. In the Additional Languages section, click on   next to the language, and click Edit.
  3. Edit as needed and click Save. Your edits will appear on your survey automatically.

To enable or disable an additional language:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. In the Additional Languages section, click on <Toggle> next to the language, and click Disable or Enable.

To delete an additional language in a survey:

  1. Click Languages in the Settings tab.
  2. In the Additional Languages section, click on <...> Create online surveys and click Delete. The additional language will be deleted.

Behaviour:

  1. The default survey language changes according to the respondent's default browser language.
  2. Changes are autosaved when languages are rearranged in the list of additional languages.
  3. You can view how much content in the survey has been translated, by viewing the value near the <preview> button.
  4. Downloaded spreadsheets consist of translated content you have previously added.

Access:

Additional languages can be added to your surveys in your Zoho Survey account with the Pro and Enterprise plans.
