Timer
You can now set up a countdown timer to your survey and manage the time your respondents spend on your survey or on multiple pages of your survey. This feature is useful when you need to conduct a quiz or an online test, or when you have a video or audio clip in your survey that has to be watched or listened to before answering the question. You can set a minimum duration between 5 minutes to 4 hours 55 minutes, and a maximum duration from 5 minutes to 5 hours.
There are two types of timers in Zoho Survey:
- Survey timer
- Page timer
Survey Timer
A survey timer lets your respondent know how much time they have left to complete the entire survey. You can set a minimum duration by calculating an approximate time one would need to answer all questions in your survey, and also set up a maximum time limit. When a timer is set, the respondents will have to complete the survey within the time limit and if they fail to do so, the responses they have entered until then will be automatically submitted.

To add a survey timer:
- Click Timer in the Settings tab.
- Click Add Timer.
- Select Survey Timer in the Timer Type dropdown list.
- Click Next.
- Select the Set up a minimum duration for the timer checkbox and choose a minimum time duration for the survey.
- Select the Set up a maximum duration for the timer checkbox and choose the maximum time duration for the survey.
- Click the Once the timer reaches its maximum duration, redirect to dropdown list to select where you want your respondents to be navigated to when the timer runs out.
- Edit the Timer label text, if required.
- Select the Allow respondents to request for additional minutes checkbox to let your respondents request for a time extension.
- Select the time you want to set for auto-approval in the Auto-approve the extra time, if the requested time is less than dropdown list.
- Click Click here to view the time requests from respondents to view the requests from your respondents for additional time.
- Click Save.
To view the requests for time extension:
- Click Click here to view the time requests from respondents to view the requests from your respondents for additional time.
- View all the pending requests in the Pending Requests section.
- View all the requests that have been approved in the Approved Requests section.
- View all the requests that have been rejected in the Rejected Requests section.
- View all the requests that have expired in the Expired Requests section. Requests expire when the timer reaches its maximum duration time limit.
To manage the pending requests for time extension:
- To approve any request, select the user email address from which the request came, and click Approve.
- To reject a request, select the user email address from which the request came, and click Reject.
Page Timer
You can use the page timer to make sure your respondents only spend the required time on a certain page or multiple pages of your survey. You can also use the page timer to ensure the respondents do not have much time to do research to answer the questions in an online test. When a page timer is set, the respondents will have to complete the page within the time limit; if they fail to do so, the responses they have entered until then on the page will be automatically submitted, and the survey will load the following page.

To add a page timer:
- Click Timer in the Settings tab.
- Click Add Timer.
- Select Page Timer in the Timer Type dropdown list.
- Click Next.
- Select the page on which you want to add the timer in the dropdown list.
- Select the Set up a minimum duration for the timer checkbox and choose a minimum time to display the page.
- Select the Set up a maximum duration for the timer checkbox and choose the maximum time to display the page.
- Edit the Timer label text, if required.
- Click Save.
To add timers for multiple pages:
- Click Timer in the Settings tab.
- Click Add Page Timer.
- Select Page Timer in the Timer Type dropdown list.
- Click Next.
- Select the page on which you want to add the timer in the dropdown list.
- Select the Set up a minimum duration for the timer checkbox and choose a minimum time to display the page.
- Select the Set up a maximum duration for the timer checkbox and choose the maximum time to display the page.
- Edit the Timer label text, if required.
- Click Save.
To remove the timer set for a certain page:
- Click Timer in the Settings tab.
- Click Remove in the section from where you want to remove the page timer.
To remove a timer:
- Click Timer in the Settings tab.
- Click Remove Timer.
- Click Remove in the confirmation dialog box that follows.
