Portal ownership transfer allows you to hand over complete control of your portal to another user. This includes administrative rights, billing responsibilities, and full access permissions, making it a significant and permanent action.
What is portal owner transfer?
The Portal Owner Transfer feature lets the current Owner reassign ownership of the portal to an existing Manager. Once transferred, the new Owner gains full control of the portal, while the previous Owner is automatically downgraded to a Manager role.
Example: If a team lead is leaving the organization, they can transfer portal ownership to another Manager to ensure uninterrupted access and administration.

How to transfer portal ownership
Navigate to the portals page in your Zoho Tables account.
Open the collaborators list to view all users in the portal.
Locate the Manager you want to transfer ownership to.
Click the More Options () icon next to their name.
Choose Make as Owner from the dropdown menu.
A confirmation pop-up will appear, outlining the key changes that will follow. Review them carefully and click Confirm to proceed.
The ownership transfer will complete, and both the previous and new Owner will receive an email notification confirming the role change.
Key impacts of ownership transfer
Before confirming, review what changes with the transfer:
Permissions — The new Owner will receive complete and unrestricted access to the portal, including all workspaces, tables, and settings.
Billing — All billing responsibilities, including plan management and payment details, will be transferred to the new owner.
Admin rights — Privileges like managing admins, configuring critical portal settings, and overseeing collaborators will pass to the new owner.
Note: Once the transfer is complete, the current owner's role will automatically switch to Manager. Only manager-level permissions will be retained, and access to ownership-exclusive settings will no longer be available. What happens after the transfer
| Previous Owner | New Owner |
Role | Downgraded to Manager | Upgraded to Owner |
Portal access | Manager-level only | Full, unrestricted access |
Billing control | Removed | Fully transferred |
Admin rights | Removed | Fully transferred |
Email notification | Yes | Yes |
Things to keep in mind This action is not automatically reversible. Once ownership is transferred, only the new Owner can initiate another transfer back.
Only Managers are eligible to be made the new Owner —you cannot transfer ownership to a Data Maintainer, Commenter, or Viewer directly.
